Would be the smart thing but i want a car i like, and nothing against the miata, i just dont like it. I already own a brz

Who said anything about the same tires? We're talking about building a racecar aren't we? Sure you can go faster with an 86 if you spend some money on modding it, you'll also go faster with a C5 or C6 Corvette and even faster with a 911 or GTR. But for less than $20k you'll have a car that's faster than the >$20k you'd spend on a used 86, not to mention the cost of building the 86 to match.

And racecar

This is a few years old, this past year some of the legal guys were dipping into the 1:45 range, the illegal guys were well into 1:45. And to be clear, spec miata has the motors sealed to factory specs, we're talking about a car with ~130 horses at the crank, non-adjustable bilsteins, roll cage and sticky rubber being 5 seconds faster than Randy Pobst with a stock BRZ being timed by a magazine. With a good turbo build and some money on a high quality damper spring combo an old p.o.s. Miata would be wicked fast, might be able to get under 1:40 with balls of steel? Mclaren P1 and Porsche 918 are right around 1:30?

Then why ask? Go build your racecar BRZ, you won't be the first and you most certainly won't be the last, go have fun.

And if you 'like' the Lotus more then save up for the Lotus, see if you can test drive one before you commit to not working on the BRZ.

FT86 laptimes on stock tires means nothing to me. Even with a good driver.
Spec Miata looks like a good car.

That's the rookie car in iRacing. It works fine.
