Good platform for stripped down gt3 car?
Thinking of making a stripped down gt3 car, brz or lotus?
|
BRZ.
Lotus got crapy weight distribution, gear ratios, shifting feel, build quality, reliability. If you can go crazy, a Lotus with BOE TVS supercharger, EliseParts paddle shifter gearbox and all the light stuff gonna be crazy fast. I'm switching atm from an Exige to a GT86 for the cargo space, because I wanna use slick tires. Parts are less expensive for the Lotus, coilovers are like half the price. If you don't need the cargo space, s2000 is the best car. In this case I would do an Evasive like build. Lotus steering feel is the main reason to get one. The low weight is counterbalanced by the crapy weight distribution 62% rear. Anyway, you have to buy a NA Exige. OEM supercharger is useless and more expensive. |
Is there alot of Lotus in your area? Is there a price range that you want to be in? Lotus in my area are usually around the 40k mark due to it's "rarity" .

Exige prices are increasing in Europe too.

Depends entirely on what the series rules dictate.

To add to my comment, I think this car is absolutely the worst thing to use for racing in the GT3 category.
Here's a list of the currently-homologated cars in GT3 classification: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Group_...mologated_cars Touring car racing, I can accept as the entry barrier (and performance level) of the cars is lower. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Touring_car_racing If you are thinking about SCCA GT3 then that's an entirely different story. -alex |
By gt3, OP means gt3 race car or gt3 like road going track day car ?
My comments were for the road going one. |

If you want a lightweight (low running cost) car, you have to choose between Exige, FT86 and s2000. The s2000 will be the fastest car for the lowest cost. FT86 if you need the cargo space to carry track tires. Exige for the ultimate pace, with: BWR build engine and TVS supercharger (400hp on pump gas) EliseParts sequential gearbox EliseParts brake discs with OEM calipers for sprint or AP racing for endurance Nitron 46 mm coilovers TSW 1.4 wheels. |

Here is the Evasive s2000 : http://www.superstreetonline.com/fea...4-honda-s2000/ The BWR / BOE stuff : http://www.blackwatchracing.com/Revo...its-p/1119.htm http://www.boefabrication.com/ The gearbox : http://www.eliseparts.com/products/s...ntial-gearbox/ Lotus OEM gearbox is not good enough for a supercharger, you need at least the kaaz gearsets. If you don't have the money for the build engine, you can go for the non intercooled 300 hp TVS The TVS is a high efficiency supercharger that don't need intercooler for 300 hp. Even for racing purpose. Stock engine is safe at 300hp |
Build a spec Miata, cheaper than an 86 and over 5 seconds a lap quicker than a stock BRZ around Laguna Seca and a huge community and aftermarket available.
And then you can actually go race it for a season or two with the money you saved from not buying a Toyobaru. |
