TPMS sensors are replaceable, but the big question is what frequencies are the sensors on that allows them to talk with the ECU.
And of course, will we be unable to disable TCS/VSA with the TPMS sensors removed.

Frequencies are important but there are only a few different ones that are used. Most common in the US is 315Mhz. Just as important is the protical used which is different for pretty much every manufacturer.

Okay now that I have my BRZ I've been playing around with TPMS a little this morning and made a few discoveries.
1. The sensors are 315Mhz 2. They are compatable with Toyota TPMS protocals 3. The ECU does not appear to be programmable with the ATEQ quickset tool (latest firmware QD1-44) I have a ATEQ VT-55 which lets me read the sensors, but not the OBDII attachement that lets you program ECU so I can't say if it would work or not but I doubt it. I'll be playing around with this a little more later today. I haven't tried every possible Toyota/Scion/Subaru Make/model combination for the Quickset yet. I'm also going to contact ATEQ and ask them about firmware updates to support the BRZ/FR-S. Edit: Here are the sensor readings from I was able to get with the VT-55 ---- LEFT FRONT ---- Sensor ID : ID: 1295AE Pressure : 35.4 PSI Temperature : 60 F Sensor state: WAKE ---- RIGHT FRONT ---- Sensor ID : ID: 12952D Pressure : 35.4 PSI Temperature : 62 F Sensor state: WAKE ---- RIGHT REAR ---- Sensor ID : ID: 12952C Pressure : 34.4 PSI Temperature : 57 F Sensor state: WAKE ---- LEFT REAR ---- Sensor ID : ID: 129524 Pressure : 33.9 PSI Temperature : 60 F Sensor state: WAKE Last edited by neutron256; 06-01-2012 at 11:37 AM. Are you sure we are unable to disable TCS/VSC? Not all cars do that but I do fear the BRZ might.

![]() Let's hope that ATEQ is quick to update their quickset tool to work with BRZ/FR-S Do you know what manufacturer protocol those use? Toyota usually uses Pacific and TSW, iirc. |

I pretty much doubt that. I looked though Scion VSC description/repair/diagnostics in TIS and there are zero references to TPMS. I'm probably gonna try a few wheels I have over the week end so I'll know for sure.

I've always wanted the OBDII module but I can't complain for something I got for $200 off eBay. The Quickset is a nice way to bridge the gap, or at least it was in my other cars. |

![]() After posting that I realized the spare likely doesn't have a TPMS sensor so I can just install that on the front and find out :P

So I put my Subaru wheels on. Went for a drive. A loooong one, the TPMS light did not come on. Drove some more - light didn't come on. Then I stopped and read the manual. Light does not come on if the system does not sense any sensors.
Naturally, the "vsc-off" button works as normal. Seems like the answer is no. I'll post a pic in a few in some thread that might be relevant. Quote:
