I welcome this with open arms; I trust computers way more than the average idiot behind the wheel of something as deadly as a car.

Where as I'll agree about idiots driving, see them all the time on my bike. So much for gun control. Who wants to watch a computer race?

Never felt more fear when I was on the road than when I was on a motorcycle. I recall a time where I was cut off, and I braked so hard my rear wheel locked up and I almost lost control because someone turned right in front of me. Then I went past them, I got the finger for laying on my horn.

I saw somebody cut off a motorcycle recently. I was so disgusted I wanted to give them some road rage. But two wrongs don't make a right. The driver was oblivious to what they had done which is typical as well.

Right now as I sit on my front porch I am seeing 9 out of 10 cars rolling through a 4 way stop. Many are barely slowing down.

Not surprised given the intersection you live at. Looks like an accident waiting to happen

Yes that is my oppinion. I'm all for technology advancements, since I am an engineer in auto industry I am helping them happen! I like that everything is safer, faster, etc. But every advancement I believe is moving away from true driving. True driving to me means maximum human input minimum computer input.

I for one would have opted for a PDK like transmission over mamual if it wasn't much heavier and performed better. Otherwise the slush box is likely the better overall performer IMHO. Auto box suits non manual drivers or heavy commuting but you're unlikely to see it representing Toyobaru on the track. Either way its a great car and I wouldn't throw an autobox Toyobaru out of bed, so to speak.

There is a performance advantage to the double clutch auto or otherwise companies like Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini wouldn't highlight it.

If you ask real pros shooting car races, they're definitely not shooting in full manual, and likely aren't using manual focus. Things happen WAY too fast for that. Shutter priority lets you set the shutter speed for the background blur you want, and lets the camera figure out aperture to get the exposure close enough to fix in post production.

Most people don't use lens corrections on the body at all (geometric or color), regardless of what mode they're shooting in. Those aren't really comparable either, since they're a physical limitation of the lens. You can't change a setting to fix it, you have to buy a different lens. You can correct it in PS (or similar) though.

It's not auto stabilization, it's optical stabilization and not even pros can hand hold slow exposures without it.

There's also white balance, color saturation, etc.

I personally love auto shutter winding on my digital body though

I think it's a good idea to learn to drive auto at first. It wasn't that long ago for me and I remember being very overwhelmed just moving around in traffic. If I was also being distracted with the clutch and shifter, I may have ended up in an accident.

I learned to drive manual recently and I'm probably slower in my manual BRZ than I would be in an auto but I enjoy the manual much more. I like the engagement that comes with working the clutch and shifter and having the extra control over the car.

Yeah i started out learning automatic first in a van. Then i bought my first car, subaru wrx and learned standard and man....was a crazy first day...stalled so many times haha.

But yeah, anyways, in my eyes, automatic is lovely for daily driving.
Manual is lovely for daily driving also.

Both are good, but in regards to when having an option, i consider manual better for sports cars.

Well I'm going to chime in here, and this will likely piss off some people. But oh well. Here it goes.

Personally I believe the drivers that "can't/won't" drive manual are not as good of a driver, for the simple reason - they don't have as much situational awareness. And what I mean by that is, I daily drive the 401 in my manual trucks and BRZ, and I see it all the time where people in their A to B auto don't give a shit about leaving gaps or properly accelerating when merging or even passing for that matter. They're oblivious to the traffic around them - it seems because they don't have to plan for gear changes to merge, pass, or leave a gap to prevent stop and go bullshit. From my perspective - auto drivers driving style = gas and brake, drink my coffee, texting, whatever else the F they're doing other than driving, with no coasting or thought processes of "hey what if I just kinda slowly coast to te car in front me I don't have to come to a complete stop before they move again."

Pisses me off. And not to mention that some rich ****, who doesn't have a friggin clue about cars or driving gets to drive his automatic ferrari, GTR, Lamborghini, R8, or even something less exotic like a corvette. These are SPORTS cars and should be treated as such, not a status symbol that says look at me I have a fancy car that I can't drive if it wasn't auto. Seriously I think they should give tiered licences for different vehicles based on HP, and if you can drive manual or not.

If you watch a trucker they all leave gaps so they don't have to come to a complete stop each and every time to prevent wear and tear. If everyone did this I would think that stop and go bullshit wouldn't exist or be very minimal. It's all for the sake of efficiency.

As for the track opinion, sure autos, DSG, dual clutches are always faster now, and can cover up a lot or driver errors, which to point was the purpose to the manufactures so that they could drive up sales, but that's besides the point.

The other part as many have already touched on, autos to me are boring to drive overall. I would much rather drive a manual. Much more satisfying to actually be in control. And to just put this out there, I've also driven flappy pedal cars before including a Gallardo and F430 - they were fun for the simple fact that they were an exotic but the gear changes didn't make me excited like I thought they would. Anyways I feel like there's no winning this argument.

Rant over.

Manual for me was more a choice of maintenanace ... slowing down on shifts allows me to wear down breaks less, and it also helps against theft as most dumbasses here have no idea how my immobilizer syncs up with the car on manual car start ups ... so, I guess overall it's more fun but on my side it has practical outcomes as well

While double clutch autos might technically be faster now in cars with loads of HP, there is one thing I keep hearing or reading. They suck when they aren't on the track.

They can't shift smoothly and they have trouble picking the correct gear, and they can't predict that you'll suddenly want to goose the throttle. So when you do something unexpected, the car will often shudder, of course you can select the gear you want ahead of time, but the car also won't coast in that gear. So you have to ride the throttle, and sometimes that will also cause the car to shudder. Blargh.
