I like this hood...
I'm just skeptical bout the rain issue. Vents that big and it still stays dry in the engine bay? Anything to channel water?

It doesnt stay dry at all, but this isn't a 44 Ford with points that you have to worry about getting wet... How do you think you clean an engine bay? Water.

A lot of raw steel components that were near heat such as the header heat shields would show signs of rust. However this car doesn't have many parts like this and not everyone here is parking their car in the rain. The only legitimate issues are corrosion to lower quality parts, and fear of water under extreme monsoon conditions (I live in Phoenix now, when it rains it RAINS and floods). And even then the rain bit is really quite a stupid concern. People do water injection all the time on their cars (Hell I am considering doing it on mine here soon). You aren't going to hydrolock the car by driving in the rain. If you are really concerned there are some vented hoods with rain catches that push the rain to the side of the bay to drip near the wheel wells. However they do not extra air from the bay as well as the guards go directly under the vents and the air doesn't have as direct of a flow. Luckily most of them are removable so you can install them during winter months. I have been strongly considering a hood like this to help extract the mass amount of heat my car produces to fight the 100-115F weather I drive in, but really just don't like how aggressive it looks and am considering doing just a few Louvers in my hood to help out. Most of our parts that would corrode are painted on this car such as the injector covers. Your header shields may rust but thats really about it. If you are worried about corrosion then try to avoid parking in the rain. When driving the water contamination is low as the water goes up and over the car not in it. Even stock cars will get some water under the hood from driving in wet conditions as the rain water can go through the radiator (and around it) as well as splash up over the under panels of the car (which help reduce moister as well). I used to drive in the rain with my S2000 all the time. I only remember two occasions in which I had to pull over under an overpass to put my roof up because the monsoons were so aggressive. other than those I barely got wet with the top down at 50+MPH unless I was at a complete stop.

Yup like everyone is saying! No problems. My buddies FRS with the Seibon vented hood is still running after daily car washes and numerous rain storms. :P

The car in the OP is my car and to answer some questions:
I weighed both the stock hood and the seibon hood I received and they were both the same. The DV style hood from what ive seen/read is the only hood seibon makes that seems to have some minor fitment issues. I actually have spacers in my fenders in order to match the contour of the hood (it is raised up higher than the fenders right above the arch) and it sits a bit too low in the front. but i deal with it. its something that most people dont even notice. Rain? I just say fuck it. If you dont have a short ram intake, or something that water will get into it wont matter. Ive been running this hood for over 2 years with no problems and it rains A LOT where i live |

Foam filters can suck though since they can hold such a large volume of water. I've had a TROLOLOLOL experience with that once upon a time. I ended up pulling over, removing it (because I couldn't even move) and driving home without the filter and using a blow dryer to get the 50 gallons of water out of the foam filter. That was the last foam filter i ever used.

So I'm just gonna jack this thread quick. Everywhere I've seen says water on the engine won't hurt anything. Ok that's legit, but what about this ECU looking thing and this little breather hole on the oil filter bowl?

just curious as to where the vents "dump" in relation to the belt path. I'm also curious as to how much clearance it removes underhood. I mainly just want to keep the alternator from getting drenched during heavy rains as well as the belt. the rest of the stuff is weatherpacked and sealed so no biggie. not sure if i need to get a grimmspeed tool tray to deflect water or not is all.
