100lbs was saying, you can't build a 2300lb car with a turbo 2L engine in it. A turbo 2L plus the heavier duty transmission, drive axles, and brakes needed would be minimum 100lbs more than say a K24 + 6 speed. I'm saying you can however do a souped up R18 Civic drivetrain and make a 2300lb barebones car with that, which I'd be super happy with.

Just because the MR2 pulled off a mid-engine platform in a cheap way does not mean that's how all mid-engine cars are made. If that were even remotely true we'd have a whole lot more affordable mid-engined cars around.

On the Honda quote, im so used to seeing civics and accords that even if they made a type r super sports car, it would still look uninviting, to me. I would give it a 2 second glimpse and that would be it. Its like running into Integras. I just see a car with people inside. Honda has been out of the sports league for too long. Si's are no longer seen and respected here like they were 10? Years ago. I dont trust them to motivate me like the ft86 did.

Toyota is heading that way, perhaps if theres a company, Nissan is the only one staying in the game. ie 350z, 370z, 240sx, 300z, gtr...etc

Ford is also like Honda. Mustang has been on a decline from muscle to mpg grocery grabber to your grandma's ride to bingo night. With their new turbo hatchback (name? Fiesta???) Its still a ford focus to me aka in my eyes as a hatch corolla.

Yep agreed. Its (the twins) a sluggish ride compared to other cars. But, we have a forum full of those issues.

I might not have a big love for Honda, but still, i never said a new Honda could never change my mind. Never know. It might eventually. The S2k nearly did, and the crz definitely did...until i test drove one.

Unfortunately, as it stands, the relationship between that whore Honda and me has gone on a sharp decline.

I get what you're saying but your opinions are a bit off. A lot of people think Ford is doing great right now with a totally new Mustang platform, the Fiesta ST, the coming AWD Focus RS, and the gorgeous GT.... and you're listing old cars in the case of Nissan. I think the S2000 is better than any of those Zs on a track in the hands of a good driver. The 370z is not as impressive as it could be and the 240sx was gone before the S2000 even started its 9 years of production. Who cares about a company's reputation for building grocery getters? We all know that's how the auto industry is for MOST manufacturers. That doesn't mean they can't blow minds with a new sports car.

$55k seems pretty reasonable to me for a mid-engined, turbocharged 300-400hp S2000 successor in 2017/2018 money.

The inflation argument is valid, however where it doesn't hold water is that it doesn't take into account that wages for Americans haven't increased in 40 years, especially at the rate of inflation. Heck, because of 2008, many folks make less money today than they did in the year 2000.

Could you imaging the S2k launching today at $48k... They entire world would be doing this:

I don't disagree there. Pay is not keeping up with inflation, and that is a big societal problem. :/

Batteries degenerate overtime, whether they're lead-acid or lithium ion. Extreme temperatures don't help either. Not to mention the less a battery is used (or charged to full charge), the more the storage capacity degenerates.

As an electrical engineer I'm reminded everyday that electric cars are far from the future and that the current hybrid tech isn't meant to last as long as a car with a regular combustion engine setup. It's not the recharge times that any of you should be worried about, but the longevity and potential repair costs that electric cars and hybrid systems can have.

It will be interesting to see what they do next with batteries or the use of supercapacitors. Hopefully graphene will be less snake oil and more olive oil.

I worked at Toyota when the Prius launched. I couldn't tell you if I tried how many bearing failures we had to warranty.

Update: We emailed a Honda spokesman to ask what this car is, and sadly — despite how much it looks like those baby NSX patent drawings — it’s merely a design study from a few years ago.

"It’s a three year old design study made by our LA advance design studio. It’s on permanent display in the lobby of our Silicon Valley R&D facility, and was on display at our press conference last week. It’s not an S2000 or baby NSX, but it is an indication that our designers continually dream about sports cars."
