4 Days to go..............

With only 4 days to go I am faced with the real possibility that I am not going to be able to afford this car if it goes over budget. If it does I still need another car and a really don't want a boring car until the market / price / etc, sorts itself out for the eight six.

Really don't want a WRX or front wheel drive hot hatch......
I think I will start looking for an older M3. I know BMW'S and where to get parts and how to put it all together. this way I will have a quality car that has plenty of grunt and comfort. I can still upgrade it and there are plenty of mods out there for it.

So in preparation, now really looking for another car just in case.

I would be going for something heaps cheaper then a M3.

How long would you be keeping the M3 for?

At some point in time you will be able to get a good 86 for $29,000 and it may only be a year from now. It makes more sense to skip the hype and save for this.

I know how you feel ... Im stuck in the same situation also.

I am really sick of old cars and issues. Never thought i would ever get a new car, but the 86 is the only new car i want.

I should have just got a twin turbo supra and be done with it... It may be, what I need to do... Im not buying a boring runaround car either.

Still think i will regret driving the supra around and see a 86 go by me. But what choice will toyota give me.

Well I had a 6cyl Z3 for five years until someone run a red light and hit me at 80km and as you can imagine there was nothing left of it.
It was emasculate after five years of buying parts, light weight clutch, alloy everything, etc, etc,......
my car new was $86,000.. didn't pay that for it of course but defiantly a quality car.

More than happy to find a cheaper car.. open for suggestions.

I was thinking of only one other car when I was deciding to get the 86, and that would be the Mitsubishi Evo. A hell of a lot better than a WRX, rarer, better AWD and faster. But now if I can't get an 86, than I'm getting a Triton.

WRX hatch (or STI for that matter) is the best of both worlds. performance, practicality.

the 86, while a step in the right direction, will be improved upon in the coming years and I see no point in being an early adopter.

i dont think it will be improved all that much. if anything at all.

Trd version - supercharger and stiffer suspension, im sure will come in Japan. Not sure about everywhere else though.

If the TRD version came to aust, sure you would have to add another $15-20k to the price of the 86.

Agreed. I don't expect to see many changes for a while especially considering that it took them years to come up with this car. Sure there will be some styling improvement but mechanically don't think so. Plus Toyota are going to be busy working on bringing out the bigger and little brother to the 86 and Subaru busy with the new WRX - can't imagine them spending too much effort trying to improve this car.

Davey, FnF6 is in production, or soon to be, so I would be very surprised if there aren't any 86's in it

I may postpone buying one, but for a different reason. I have had an opportunity come up to go to Japan for a month and "work" in something that is a dream, and I won't pass it up.

After that it may end up being more than a month I stay.....

There is already a new FA20 with turbo and subaru direct injection (4 injectors, not 8 like the 86) being used in the new liberty and WRX.

it would be very ignorant to think that this engine is not going to show up in at least the BRZ in '13/'14.
