Staggered set up at the track

What would happen if we have a staggered wheel set up at the track? Just curious, that's all.

I am not an expert, but wouldn't a staggered set up induce understeer?

You won't be able to rotate your tires, that's what will happen :P

And more understeer.

Interesting.. Why do cars like S2K come as a staggered set up from the factory?

Every car is designed differently and if you have ever driven an s2k you would instantly know why they do. Even with the staggered setup they are very tail happy. I wouldn't suggest a staggered setup on a car that doesn't come that way from the factory unless some serious modification and power upgrades have been done. Even then it would just come down to testing

Which is more tail happy, staggered or squared?

All the s2k guys I've seen at the track are running squared set up. That's why I was curious about this. haha

For us, a square setup will be more tail happy, because there's less traction in the back vs. a staggered setup. Having the right springs on it will make it even more tail happy though.

Factories build in understeer to protect the unwashed masses.

For example, in 1995 the M3 came with a square setup, then in 96 switched it to staggered to make the car less tail happy.

They also either run a rear wing or a big ass front sway bar to keep the oversteer in check.

Correlation =/= causation.

Have you ever asked *why* they run square?

Everyone just said it's for more balanced handling. But it just popped up in my head this morning and wanted to ask. haha

Wut?

It's not for more balanced handing... adding front tire to a rear happy car?
