Read through the corvette forums thoroughly for issues you should look out for, and realize the electrical system is rather extensive and complicated, and ultimately designed and made by Chevy. Depending on what year you get, there may even be some important 'dealer only' parts you will no longer be able to get. I really wanted to love my C5Z, but it was a giant POS. I still really, really lust after a Vette, but a quick check through those forums brings me back to reality. |

Drove my friend's fully spec'd C6 Grand Sport this past weekend. I was impressed by everything except for the way the steering felt -- numb and not enough feedback compared to the 86s.

I briefly considered a used C6 before my BRZ - I like the car but wasn't able to find a nice example of one in the same price range of a new BRZ. I was willing to take the hit on interest rate (used vs new), but just couldn't find a nice example.

Take an 86 to the lake livingston backroads and into the hill country and she'll sing to you. You also won't see nearly as many Toyobarus on the Houston roads as you will Vettes so if you like exclusivity and standing out a bit more, the 86 is the way. That being said, the C7 is my dream car and I would punch a baby to have a chance to cruise around in one... sooooo I don't blame you if you take the torquey route. Either way, you win |

I've owned both - a 2006 C6 Convertible (from '09 to '11) and a 2013 FRS (from '12-present). Believe it or not, the Corvette was more comfortable, the insurance was less expensive, and I averaged around 22 MPG. The downside was, as someone commented previously, the C6 felt like a fairly big car, and the steering feel wasn't as sharp and natural as the FRS. Also, it didn't FEEL fast - but it was. On the other hand, my FRS is painfully slow, the ride is borderline harsh, and the insurance is ridiculously high (even with excellent credit and a zero tickets/accidents). It does FEEL more sporty than the Vette did though. I also like that, for now, FRS' and BRZ's are much less common than C6's.
All that said, having owned both (and still own a FRS), I say... C6. BUT For that price range, I would go with a 1st gen Cayman. If I didn't already have another 'fun' car AND the FRS for a commuter, I'd definitely own a Cayman.
