EcuTEK is better no doubt - OFT pretty much just modified the existing factory ECU tables, EcuTek's RaceROM is custom software that can do some pretty neat additional things that the OFT cannot. That said, I have an OFT, why? Bought it used for $350. Maps are free. Makes my car smoother, peppier, and more fun to drive. I can run E85 if I want to. That's all I need. I don't need map switching, custom tunes, or any of the other awesome features EcuTek has, so why would I spend that much more for EcuTek? I think that's a point that some of the 'track heads' might miss - many people are fine with a plug n play no frills solution that gives you 95% of the performance for less than 1/2 the money. It's great to have options people. |

Updating my OFT won't wipe off my stock tune, right?

No it won't. But if you're concerned, you could flash your car back to stock, update the OFT, then flash back to whatever map you were using.
Basically backing up the OEM map in the car's ECU before you update your OFT. |

That'll be a question for the software tuning section, because I have no idea.

Within +/- 4% is probably where you'll end up unless you re-scale your MAF. Obviously the closer to 0 you can get, the better.

No it wont, your stock rom is stored in oft untill you write it back and erase oft you only need to do that if you want to sell oft to another user.
updating oft just updates oft softwareit all tune files remain. no need to flash back to stock you can also download your stock rom from oft to your computer as well, any of the other tune files can also be downloaded and saved as well. |

Are there any legitimate reviews on the forum from people that have switched from OFT to Ecutek or vice versa? I realize now that OFT is just a device used to flash, and it has the benefit of coming with a bunch of off the shelf tunes which are good provided you can't get your car on a dyno for a more custom tune.

Ill try to as unbiased as possible EcuTek is a good system and has advanced reatures like 4 map switching on the fly (no reflash required, auto blip on downshift flex fuel option and if your going FI their are more tuners arround that will tune with it. But it will cost you more and it locks your ecu to ecutek untill you get a stock rom flashed back. The $350 ecu licience is non transferable the locked off the shelf tunes or dyno tunes that tunes that 99.9% of ecutek tuners supply are also locked. The only thing you can resell is the cable to flash a tune if you buy one. Their are no free off the shelf tunes with ecutek Your minium cost is $350 for a ecu licience and about $300 for a locked flash and go off the shelf tune. The licience is permanently locked to your car and the tune is locked. And the ecutek tuner has to flash it for you unless you pay another $350 for a ecutek cable of your own. Its well supported for na and fi. OFT $500 it is open no locks to tunes or ecu. You get a set of free off the shelf tunes for basic na mods and e85 or petrol fuels. you can go fi with oft and they provide free tunes but only for their specific fi kits. The oft is the device to flash tunes so you can flash tunes yourself, like if you purchasded an ecutek cable Because ther are no locks or liciences with oft the whole system is resellable (once you flash your stock tune back), they sell very quickly usually in a couple of days for about 90% of purchase price if you wish to move on With both systems you can get custom e-tunes or dynotunes But not many tuners will tune with oft as they cannot lock the tune, and all tuners like to tune with what they are familiar with. both systems are only as good as the tuner as in effect they just flash tuned roms. Pick the one that suits your needs budget and plans for now and in the future. Alternativly if your a bit techo you could use Tactrix for $170 all up. |
