Turn signal camera?

I just got done installing a back up camera in my car. Like it a lot!

Would it be possible to set up two small backup cameras in each rear side-window to turn on with your blinkers and display on your head unit? The idea being to assist with lane changes. I have a hard time seeing in my car. Thought it would be a fun project. Ideas?

It's possible, but you would need an android head unit with an app that allows that. EDITS: I would also work the cameras into the side mirrors somehow for a better viewing angle as opposed to out the rear window.

On the other hand. I would say don't do it and instead get some convex mirrors and point them outwards to where your blind spots are. Looking at a stereo unit instead of out the window when changing direction is imo bad driving practice's.

But I'm also the guy who uses the mirror setup I described above, so I no longer look over my shoulders anymore, I'm bias. Stupid massive B-pillars.

Interesting.... I wouldn't only look at my stereo to change lanes... Lol

You couldn't wire up a board to switch between inputs and use the factory head unit?

A logic board would definitely allow you to switch inputs between cameras depending in which signal it gets , ie. Reverse trigger vs. Turn signal.

But the problem with the factory head unit is that it only has the ability to display one camera at a time as far as I'm aware. You would have to make software changes to get it to show spilt screen camera feeds for you new dual turn signal feeds

Why would you need multiple cameras?

Reverse=reverse cam on trunk
Left blinker=camera on left rear window
Right blinker=camera on right rear window

Where would I go to ask about making a board like that? I don't think I could figure it out....

Biggest issue will be triggering the head unit to display the camera feed from each camera. I would think running the turn signal command for each side so it activates the display in the same manner the reverse sensor does should work. Finding what that signal is and the wire it needs to go to would be key. The turn signal circuit would also have to be the signal to turn on the camera. It would be a mess of wires.

Not to troll, but wide angle mirrors do a great job at increasing visibility. Although, more power to you if you go the camera route.

Oops my bad. You're right, you would only need to show one camera at a time on screen. So no software modifcations to the head unit would be needed.

I think buying that camera module from aliexpress would be the best way of doing it. Building one of your own would be quite the headache if you don't know what you're doing. And having one custom made would probably be more then 50 dollars.

I concur. I got them a few months back. It's worth it, although I still turn my head to check even though there are no blind spots at all.
