Oil Filter

I hit 500 miles today, so I thought maybe I'll think about doing an early oil change. I realize it is total overkill, but what the heck. I'm partly curious to see if there are any shavings, flecks, etc in there. I figure it can't hurt.

First road block: can't find a filter. K&N tells me that theirs isn't out yet, and the dealership doesn't have any in stock just yet. They're ordering me one, and it will be here Friday (hopefully).

Does anyone know if this car takes a special filter, or is it the same as some other filter that's already out? It seems like they would've used a standard filter, but who knows.

They cross over to other Subaru's.
Also, Use OEM oil filters, If there is a warranty problem with the car/engine, (1st year car!) They can use aftermarket oil filter as a reason to deny the claim.

I can also get those if anyone needs them.

Or any filter for a Acura Integra/most other hondas.

AKA Mobil1 M104, K&N HP-1004, etc.

Aftermarket oil filter alone is not enough to deny a warranty claim, unless the filter caused the damage. There's a law protecting your right to use noncom parts. Here's nice little write-up from K&N.

The only reason it would affect your warranty is if they could prove it was the filter that caused the problem. Quite unlikely.

In theory you are correct. But behind closed doors you will get denied.
I used to work for a major european motorcycle company. Motor claims would be tossed if the OEM oil filter was not used.

I will also state I have had a Fram oil filter fail and they left me high and dry on the claim.

I only use OEM myself. Its just not worth it.

I've never seen a claim denied based on what filter was in a Toyota or Scion.

:dunno:

The black Subaru oil filters are supposedly very good. I would stick with those unless you plan on doing extended drains or can find a better/comparable filter for less money.

And I've never heard of one being denied by ANY auto manufacturer for that. It'd be a joke in some cases.. rebranded crap FRAM filters are OK but good filters aren't..

Dang it. There are only like 7 threads in this topic, and I created a repost. Ugh, I feel a bit silly. I SWEAR it wasn't there when I looked this morning!
