Take a look at the Apexi drop-in. I think it was as good as, and it doesn't need to be oiled.

That chart is awesome! I'd get it if it wasn't disposable. I like having a filter that I can run for life of car. Seems like next best hp per dollar upgrade is a muffler delete

I figured no filter is disposable or at least will have a longish life as long as you clean it, what filter wouldn't require replacement/cleaning?

I'm with you on periodic cleaning but not down to buy one that you throw away at 15k miles

Out of curiosity, where does it say to throw it after 15k? This is the closest I've found and it doesn't actually say that:

Filter life has been tested to operate over 25,000km (15,000mi) under normal street driving conditions. Filter maintenance and overall life differs depending upon conditions under which the filter is used. Inspect for wear and tear, use best judgment, and replace if damage is suspected.

The filter can be cleaned by blowing compressed air through the filter, opposite the direction of inbound airstream. This filter is designed for use as a dry-type filter. Do not apply filter oil to this filter as it was not designed to utilize such oils. Water, cleaning solvents, and other liquids may damage the filter and must not be used to clean the filter.

No worries, just wanted to be sure I wasn't going to get a nasty surprise after 15k.

Any updates on testing other drop-ins for filtration effectiveness and air flow gains?

Went with a K&N a few months back. Not sure if it was placebo but it did feel a bit better over the crappy stock filter.

Do you know the difference between Des Moines and yogurt?

Yogurt has an active culture.

Any updates regarding the mid-long term studies on the K&N and aFe?

Also, does anyone have information regarding the TRD filter?

Wasn't TRD almost same as drop in filters performance wise, except that for higher price one also gets sound tube delete & keeps warranty?
