I was thinking the same. Can you just clean it with water or should I just replace it? I've searched and found nothing on the HKS in regards to cleaning.

Thanks for the great review OP. I have the Afe dry and i noticed my idle dip is gone. It does have a bit louder sound in cabin as well.

What is the downside of the K&N drop in filter? I've seen a few comments about allowing more dirt in the engine, is that true?

Hey guys,
Just wondering when you guys will update the test results for the Apexi and Cosworth filters. Also, can you clean the HKS ones? Thanks. |

We no longer have a stock FRS to test on but as you can see they all pretty much get around the same gains.

I have a k&n in my Nissan and my much older car, neither vehicles have suffered any kind of damage. I think someone is just being an asshole starting rumors for his own amusement or they don't like k&n for some reason. The only difference with a boxer vs an inline-4 or V6 is the pistons are opposed.

How has MPG been with drop-ins? I usually keep revs down when i can and most CAI seem to rob low end power. Looking at drop-in for price and fuel concerns. a few HP would be nice too!

Seems drop-in is the way to go. I'm between K&N or HKS. Seems HKS is more restrictive but people seem to believe K&N don't filter enough particles.

I had K&N filters in all of my vehicles. I had a 1993 Mustang that had one in it from day 1, and I put 193,000 miles on it before I sold it, and it was still going strong. My '99 Superduty diesel has 250,000 miles on it, all with a K&N filter in it, and it's still going strong. Proper cleaning and recoiling is the key.
