Found A Connector Not Plugged In
While running a wire for my backup camera, I found a connection not snapped together in the driver's side footwell behind the kick panel. The wire I ran went to a connection with a black locking hinge on it, and just above it, there it was. Not together at all. I have never been behind this panel before and I am the 1st owner of the car. I don't know what that connection is for. I'd love to upload a photo but tapatalk keeps crashing every time I try. Anyone know what all systems pass through that connection?

Hard to tell but there are a few connectors that are not hooked up back there. Could be nav GPS antenna, mirror heaters or any other number of options that you don't have. Believe it or not it is cheaper to put these things in on the line and not use them than it is to custom build each individual car.
As long as everything works all is good.

Probably not a NAV antenna, at least not on the FR-S. The NAV antenna comes with the GPS unit, and attaches via a magnet plate to the underside of the dash. I was very surprised when I installed it on mine but it seems to work well.

Ya, just guessing at some possible parts. I found two danglers when I was looking up under there once but everything works so they are obviously left overs.

Is it a 4-pin connector with blue tape on the wire?
There are a lot of threads on this, but so far I don't think anybody has figured out exactly what that thing is for. People have speculated that it's for the alarm, interior lighting or door accessories. I suspect it's for the alarm keypad hidden in the glove box of the European BRZs, which we don't have in the North American models, which would explain why no NA folks have found it hooked up to anything yet. I'm wondering if it has a hot lead, and if so whether that would be a good wire to tap into for extra accessory power. I'm not sure I want to try that, though, until someone can verify what it's for. I don't want to inadvertently enable the ejector seat. |

Yes, ejection seats should only be activated advertently. There are times I would pay good money for that option!

the blue circled connector is the one that I used for the reverse signal to go back to the radio, the red circled connector is the one that was unplugged. call me crazy, but I think it had something to do with the audio system. it sounds way different now that i plugged it in. None of my settings changed in my radio, but it definitely sounds different.

Looking at page 47 in our wiring diagram, which can be found here http://www.ft86club.com/files/BRZwiringi.pdf it is plug HD2. doing a search on that pdf shows that it has audio amplifier signals traveling through there, so my suspicions may be correct. I have deeper bass now, and the audio doesnt sound like it is coming through a tin can. It may be worth checking your own connections if you have lousy stock audio.

They put it there just to mess with people on the forums. If you car hasn't caught on fire yet, you're definitely okay.
