Surely engine dyno & simulation time by Cosworth and then custom tweaked to your own mods is appealing? People had stated that they would rather the "tuner" package option rather than the 3 "OTS" map.

what would they tweak? slight fiddles to the MAF scaling and pulling out any spark where required?

Really ? all that? based on what data? it not like they'll be putting every car on the rollers
I'd expect it all to be based on their existing tune - which probably has got all the changes you mentioned and more besides over the stock tune - or is that what you meant? |

Alternatively, a "tuner kit" doesn't come with a tune and it is up to your tuner of choice to tune the kit.

F1 engines only put out close to 250 Ft.lbs. Horse power can always be geared down to provide the required torque. Having power band over more rpms = desirable. Nitride coatings in modern engines, by reducing friction, allow for higher rpm cylinders by allowing lower tolerance piston to wall clearances. Inertia from big displacement/torque engine is a greater loss here. All you need is this fancy thing called a heat exchanger. I will give you that Straight cut gears are ideal for high torque. They have lower contact area = less friction when compared to high rpm helical cut gears. Now go race a farm tractor with a Superbike.

Realistically, from the provided tune, you would only need minor tweaks to AVCS, AFR, and ignition timing.

Some people want to use their tuner to start from scratch. I know of two tuners whom I have used that wont touch another tuners open tune. They would much rather start from scratch with their own FI starting tune. Most companies don't send out open tunes anyways so tuners need to start from scratch most of the time. I don't think Cosworth will offer an option for Cosworth to "tweak" the tune for your mods. I have not heard they will offer this type of E-tune service.

No, they are apparently letting their retailers do it for them which is what I posted originally. I know what your saying about the tuner packages, but the reason why people go that way is so that the tune is for their car. I know that if I were a potential customer, if I could get a Cosworth stage 2/2.2/2.3 tune edited specific to my mods then that would be better than any from scratch tune from elsewhere in my eyes. The basis of the tune is going to be solid from the testing that they do and to customize it to a certain car isn't going to involve that much or that many big changes that you stray far from their original calibration.
