OP, you register just to post this decision of yours. Are you seeking validation of your decision by the support of other people or are you here to spite 86 owners?

If your not good with manual then I think your making one big mistake. Also why the need to get other people's opinion? It's your money do what makes you happy. No need to ask someone else on what to do.

"Quick in a straight line".. uhh bud all gen WRXes are average or slow in the straights, all things considered and relative to other sport offerings in that price range.

As @totopo so eloquently pointed out, it's a different kind of drive and if you can tune out some of the understeer, AWD will smash the RWD on most track configurations, apples to apples, all else equal
Honestly for me the generic unassuming look was half of what made the og sti's awesome. You had some car that just looked like your generic mid-compact econobox with a stupid wing to those not in the know, but dominated the wrc and played with the m3's on the track for a fraction of the price. I was not a fan of the bugeyes.

Tbh everywhere I drive in my area I'll always spot an frs and it just makes me feel so ordinary, another reason why I want to switch it.

It is either that or to spark the inevitable arguments that will occure from his statements.
I do not see how else one person could manage to get so many heavily debated topics in one post otherwise!

I don't mean this to be taken as a great offense, but it kind of sounds like you had the wrong rationale for purchasing the car to begin with - or for any major financial commitment.

I can't tell you if your proposal is a 'good idea' or not, as no one here understands your specific situation, and the circumstances around it. If you have to ask this to an internet forum with people's you've never engaged with previously, then maybe you need to re-evaluate your decision, and the reasoning behind it - but I guess that brings us back to my first point.

GL with it, and whatever you end up doing; this platform is definitely a car that wants to be enjoyed, so by all means trade it in if that isn't the relationship you have with it; it does lack some practical amenities, which can make it a difficult car to justify having if you're not passionate about it, or enjoying it for what it is.

My favorites are the 05 STis. The '69, the golden year, the wonder child to most enthusiasts.

It's amazing to drive or witness a proper Bugeye EJ207 STi or EJ25X swap into a bugeye, though. It wasn't my first choice but for the money, a whole $7,000 clean never-before-modded wrb bug from a friend in 2008, I could't pass it up.

Back to on-topic. Buy '15 STI. There's no point of keeping the car you don't like. This car wasn't meant for everyone. Only handful will understand, love it & keep it. Nothing wrong that you don't get it, hate it & sell it to buy different car.

We said goodbye to members that was in same boat. Nothing new here. Enjoy your STI & we'll enjoy our twins.

Am I getting too old? I always thought of the 1995 555 sti as THE sti.

You really honestly can't push the car on a canyon road. Especially at corner exit, which is the whole point of awd. Driving a good 4wd at the track like an sti is pretty exhilerating, in a different way than rwd. the twins will have a sharper turn in and be fun and responsive with mid corner balance and all that usual jazz. In a 4wd the entry and mid corner isn't as exciting but omg when you mash the gas at corner apex and the car grips and turns BETTER and rockets you out of the corner, pretty amazing.

Edit: if you think the twins and sti are in the same class of cars in terms of track performance you are SORELY mistaken
I never said that they were in the same class. The sti is a fine car but for daily driving on public road day to day fun I just feel it cannot compete. Where I live we have one wannabe race track that is rarely open to people to drive on. We get two autocross events a year to drive on it so I dont really take it into consideration when considering a car. Plus I dont feel like the frs is a very good track car in the first place. It is at peak fun on those twisty roads that it was designed for. It was designed for fun, not to be the fastest at the track. HEck the only time I have more fun is when I drive my miata. But then the droning from that starts giving me a headache so then I go back to the frs lol

Anyways I actually plan to get an older sti one of these days just to see what all the hubbub is about. Acceleration has never been my bag since I grow tired of it easily. I like raw driving and not relying on the cars horsepower to go fast. But thats just me and my opinion maaaaan lol no need to get fiesty

Go ahead and list all the $25K-$30K V8s that have a better handling chassis.

It's not a cliché response. It's a response directly to the OP if you cared enough to pay attention. Want's a stick (but can't drive a stick) cuz the auto is boring (likely because he can't drive the auto properly either in manual or even sport mode). It's obvious he has never late braked to even remotely know what the transmission can do or used the paddles himself adequately.

This is why he wants a more powerful car. Because he doesn't know how to push the engine, transmission or chassis of the 86 to its limits. Nothing wrong with that, get an STI. Just don't blame the 86 because you don't know how to drive lightweight, RWD, high revving cars.

If anyone here is cliché, it's the haters and trolls bitching about this car sucking because lack of power makes it boring. How da fuq is a car that can corner on rails at high speed, zip through traffic and do effortless donuts in a cul-de-sac boring?!?! It's boring because the OP isn't trying. He wants the car to do it all for him. Wrong type of driver for this car. Especially one comfortable with turbo lag if you ask me.

Plus, the OC is NOT a boring place to drive!! You've got to be kidding me.

So get off your high horse and put 2+2 together, thx. Don't agree? That's just like your opinion dude.
