Trading in my automatic FRS for 2015 sti
 

I really made a bad choice by picking the automatic frs. I understand that it's the new tech but it's pretty boring to drive. The power of the car isn't that great and I've been debating for so long. I heard they were gonna come out with the Subaru BRZ sti, but that's only a rumor and I've settled down to getting a 2015 sti even if you guys say it looks like a Camry LOL. Anyway, any ideas if this is a good idea? I'm not amazing at stick either but I'll learn. Tbh everywhere I drive in my area I'll always spot an frs and it just makes me feel so ordinary, another reason why I want to switch it.

If you want an STi than it is a great idea!
If not the idea sucks.
I am sure that there are worse cars you could go for.
Just remember the "grass is always greener" syndrome can get costly.

Its just a car sell it and move on. The STI is great car. I drove a few before I bought the FRS. Way more powerful handles great. You should be happy with it.

The Auto is for old guys like me who's knees can't take sitting in traffic holding down the clutch.
The Auto on the STI is a CVT. If you think you hated the Auto transmission in the FSR....

The car is not boring to drive, you drive in a boring place.
The car doesn't need more power, you want more power.
The FRS is $10,000 less than the STI... your FRS is worth about $16,000 less than that STI. Since it's automatic, you were never going to love it anyways. If you loved it, you would take that $16,000 beating and put a whup-ass turbo kit on the engine.

If you really want to be cool, take your money and get a 2003 Z06 Corvette. You keep $10,000 for new tires, brake pads, maybe new bushings. You have a rocket ship.

Just on going to manual transmission alone, you are gonna have fun.

But then.. don't let the door hit ya, you know?

The maturity level seems to be going down a bit around here.

It's more fun to drive a slow car fast the having to drive a fast car slow.

A manual will make a big difference too. I will be more involved and active while trying to use the full potential of the vehicle.
And unless you track a car, a very powerful sports car does not make much sense in daily traffic.

Also, it is not what you drive, but where you drive it.

If you carve up some mountain roads you will have a blast with anything, driving around in a city, anything will be boring.
I'll give you an example. I have owned a Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and a Miata. I enjoyed the Miata more even though it had half the power.

The STI is manual only

Sounds like you don't know what you're doing with the car. Maybe get a V8 and go play with straight lines and stop lights.

What kind of tires, brake pads and bushings are you buying that cost $10k

I used to own an STI hatch and think the FR-S is the more fun/rewarding car to drive. The FR-S chassis is much lighter so it responds quicker to input, and offers better feedback through the controls. The driving position is a night/day difference. But the thing I really like about the FR-S is it feels more basic/honest to drive. Just a well-balanced RWD setup with a torsen LSD out back. The STI (at least my GR hatch) was much more biased towards understeer.

That's not to discourage you from switching - you just need to evaluate what you value. If a big part of what's fun for you is flooring it in a straight line and getting that shove from the turbo, you'll enjoy the STI. Also if you want a jack-of-all-trades AWD sedan that you can drive through snow and have some friends join you on a ski trip.

But if you love winding out an NA engine to redline and carving backroads up (or going to the track), I think you may miss the FR-S. They're both good cars, just cater to different audiences.
