Are you lowered? Wheel looks closer that usual to the body

I was thinking the same, but if you look closely there are multiple small cracks on the upper edge. There is space/air/gap underneath the top paint, and I believe it cracked after the fact from peeling up.

I considered that, and may have missed a small crack when I washed it 2.5wks ago, and the rust could've been forming for a while. But there were no visible signs that I saw.

I'm betting Subaru is going to tell me the exact same, that something flew up and hit it. Probably nothing I can do to prove otherwise. Going to try on Friday anyways.

Worth a shot! Even if they won't fix it at least try to get a free touch up pen from them. It worked for me.

Bet they tell you it is because you changed the suspension and that caused more road debris to hit the paint. Then they will void your warrantee (at least for body rust) and send you on your way.

paint only cracks like that from flex. especially when cold. factory delamination comes off in sheets, and it would be widespread. not just isolated

Yep. Give a quick sand with a spot sander and slap that paint in the hole. Little bit of practice and soon nobody will ever know there was a chips.

@THEWAKLER

That looks like you probably went over a bump or pothole with your wheels turned without enough camber. As others said, paint usually only cracks like that from impact. Touch up paint wont last unless you sanded beyond those crack lines first. Looks like the body shop would be required in your case. Maybe consider those "spot repair" shops if cash is tight.

Any other threads related to clear coat chipping away? I have a few issues with my paint and wanted to see if someone had the same issue. The dealer looked at is and were surprisingly shocked by it. I have paint coming off now and I am able to see the primer. The guy I was dealing with said the way Toyota puts their paint on is bad. He said they dip it and not spray it. Not sure if thats true. Only 4500 miles on her and have had her for over a year. Any links?

Oh, I seriously doubt they "dip" it. How could you get a coating soooo thin, by dipping the object ??......

How about you posting am picture of your car's paint problem ....

KNOWLEDGE OF PAINT ....... ?? HECK YES!

At my age, I have knowledge of lots of stuff ...... I just can't remember most of it .........

Paint ..... oh, yes ......... I remember, back in the day, I used to paint cars for friends and relatives. Yep, back when enamel and lacquer were the only kinds of paints for cars.

An old roadster with 30 coats of candy apple red lacquer (hand rubbed out between every other coat) would make a real looker….

OK, what was the question .......
