Muteki Wheel Nuts - chipping paint

Hi All

I have a set of Muteki wheel nuts and the paint in flaking off. The wheels have only been on/off once apart from the initial install. I've been super careful using the supplied socket, only used hand tools (no rattle guns) and the paint still flakes.

Is this a typical experience or have I somehow got a dodgy set? Not that I've tried, but I think I could scrape the coating off with a fingernail it's that fragile.

I'm bringing back this thread. I did a Google search and didn't find anything current on this site, but I did find the same issue on others.

I have the SR48 open end burned blue. Although they aren't flaking, the corners are scratched. I haven't tried to flake any of the paint, or what ever it is. But I'm sure if I tried, it would flake.

When I had the wheels mounted, the tech used the supplied socket and no damage. But, when I had the dealer rotate the tires, he scratched the hell out of them. I'm not sure he used the socket even though I provided it. I'm hoping he used it as I had to have the repair manager go find it.

So, I believe it is a common problem.

Be careful on the Muteki wheel lock key. It's chrome, the metal is weak and failed on me on an emergency flat tire. The key split down the center. Luckily I had air to get to a tire shop down the street. You can replace it with a steel one. I got it at discount tire co. $5

I would suggest the project kicks lugs for future use. Great product with great quality.... I sound like a sales rep lol. But seriously.
