rydeen mini backup cam

i've been reading through the various threads about backup cameras and the raydeen seems to be a popular choice. one thing i'm unsure about is weather it does or does not need any extra harness things to work the brz limited headunit. also i wanted to check if anyone knew if there were any differences between

in most threads i've seen the link to al-eds so just wanted to know it it came with any extra things that i wouldn't get from amazon.

Why not just get the Toyota FIT camera system from ebay. Comes w/ everything you need. Or get the beatsonic kit?

I'm running a Rydeen Duo and harness from http://autoharnesshouse.com/19867.html.

The whole setup runs for about $100 combined and is plug-and-play.

Is the Toyota system better? This is the first I've heard of it on the forum myself.

FWIW, I didn't know the pinout of the stock wiring, which is the only reason I spliced the power from the other connector. The kit does come with a single black wire w/ pin to be inserted into the correct hole int he factory harness for use as power.

Most cameras (including the Rydeens) do not include [an extra, car-specific] harness, since they're intended to be used with an aftermarket head unit or display unit. Connecting to a factory HU will require an additional harness (which varies with different car models). Some vendors have started offering kits with a harness for a particular car plus a camera.

For your BRZ, you can also use my rear camera harness. With the Rydeen cameras (as well as any other camera that works from 6 Volts [and there are many]), you won't need any additional harness(es) to tap into power from anywhere else, and you won't need a relay. Very easy connections. See the links on that page for more information about how your HU's camera function works, as well as the installation instructions.

Yes, her FR-S will need a camera plus the same type of harness with 16-pin plug. In her case, FR-S also requires that you add a wire with the reverse gear signal to the OEM radio's 28-pin harness plug -- FR-S does not have that signal from the factory. I offer a 4-foot wire with the proper Japanese terminal that you can easily snap into the vacant slot on the car's plug. The other end you must tap into a factory wire in the driver's footwell. See my installation instructions for FR-S.

Question: I bought a camera that only has an RCA ground and an RCA that goes for the video. I also bought a Pioneer Avic X9310BT harness. Will I need to add a wire the reverse signal?

These camera that I bought is COOLINT CT-X102BL
Thanks in advance!

All of mine will work. All versions include the 6V camera power lead, which the Rydeens can use. The "bypass" version is the most popular, and the one I recommend. See my 'camera operation' guide to decide.

???

What head unit was factory installed? Was it not one of the OEM Fujitsu Ten nav HUs like every US BRZ gets? I don't understand why you got the AVIC harness. Do you now have an AVIC HU?

All US BRZ models that I've seen already have the reverse gear signal on the factory 28-pin harness.

If your camera is like most, the HU end of its long cable will end with a male RCA plug for the video output. It should also have power and ground leads, either near the camera, near the HU, or both.

Some cameras simply have an extra red wire embedded in the long video cable (with both ends exposed and not connected). It's the same as if you had taped an extra wire down the length of the RCA cable. It's available for you to optionally send the reverse signal from the trunk to the HU. You can usually also use that wire to send power from the HU back to the camera (and skip tapping into the reverse lights to power the camera).

In the Rydeens, the embedded red wire is already connected to the camera power lead near the camera.

Yup found out the hard way. For some reason I thought the HU is a pioneer. I had to return the harness and I'm waiting for the beatsonic harness.
