Which is probably why they died.

I remember all the otherwise cool cars that looked like shit because the louvers trapped all kind of crap against the windows. Your car would need a wash that much faster because of the gunk caught around the edges that would slide right off other cars. The pics on here never show you that part.

In the DIY link above. Pull 8 countersunk bolts and lift it off. They say is really easy.

ive seen it in real life and its really really nice. The quality on it is great. But i did do some research online and it seems pretty pricey...over a $1k

Ebay had some knock offs for about $250 but too lazy to go see if they still do.
Now...this is likely the perfect example of "you get what you pay for" and I can imagine the $250 ones are worth every reduced cent as they will probably either fly off your car on the highway or never come off again to be able to wash the window!

I'm old enough for louvers to remind me of the dark age of car styling (70's...). That being said, I had them on a 1st gen RX7 and an Alfa GTV6 and they do make quite a difference in the heat coming in from the sun. They used to be made of thin stamped aluminum sheet, so they were pretty thin and didn't hinder rear visibility much, but the ones for the FT86 look like they're plastic and have thicker slats, although the smaller overall size of the slats does makes them look a bit more neat than the big ones from the 70's...

Well technically there are louvers in your first pic as well! They just aren't on the window.

Have to admit I did too! (They were really rare and only on some pretty heavy duty cars)
