Tires for 17x8 Wheel

Hello all, I have finally purchased wheels for this car, currently waiting for delivery. I bought some 720 Form GTF1 wheels in 17x8 with a +35 offset. This leads me to my current questions.

I have decided to go with (unless people suggest otherwise) Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2 tires, but the size is what confuses me.

I am not quite sure what tire to go with on the 17x8 wheel, seems like people go with 225/45/17s, but I am curious if it'll look much different than stock and I've noticed some people have said they went with 245/40/17s but I can't find any pictures of it and 17x8's are the lowest recommended wheel size for the tire on the Hankook website which makes me think there might issues with roll over or sidewall strength. If anyone has pictures of either of these setups I'd really like to see them. I'm assuming any 17x8 +35's with 225/45's or 245/40's would be good to see.

I don't plan on doing anything crazy with the car power wise; header back at most. Suspension-wise I've been looking at the Hotchkiss Stage 1 kit, so I have no plans of coilovers or dropping it by a large amount. I doubt the car will see the track in the foreseeable future and autocross is equally unlikely; just some windy roads at a 'spirited' pace. So, hopefully that information will help on the decision.

Might wish to consider 235/45/17 for 17x8. I have 225/45/17 on 17x7 + 48 (stock) and seem about right size for rim and appearance on brz. Also have 245/40/17 on 17x9 +35 wheels and good fit with some poke.

225/45/17 might seem narrow on 17x8; and 245/40/17 probably to wide.

Important part is to keep the diameter as close as possible to 24.6 in (I believe) which is stock. Will change power and performance

I would have to agree! a tiny bit of stretch (still recommended size for 8 in) will give you stiffer sidewalls and very close diameter

I'm running 17x8 +35 with 225/45 michelin PSS. Best mod by far. Check out Costco. They always have deals on Michelins. I took their pricing to discount tire and got them for even cheaper. Cheaper than Hankook V12 and a better tire.

i have 245/40/17 (on 17x9) and although i like the slightly wider width, i think the sidewall is a bit too "small" looking. i like the way 225/45/17 tires look on the stock wheels where it's sliiiiiightly beefier looking without being balloon tires.

Check out some of the 17x8 +35 wheels listed in the wheel directory. They don't have to be the exact wheel you have but it will give you a visual of what different tire sizes people are running on these size wheels. You might even find your tire in there somewhere to give you an idea. Check out some of the Enkei wheels. They have of few in this exact size with plenty of pics. I just bought a set of wheels in this exact trim. I'm gonna toss on my current tires (Dunlop ZII 215/45) from my stock wheels and wear them out before I move up to probably a 225.

I've got 235/45/17 PSS on 17x8 and it seems to be too much tire for NA power levels (it's also got the balloon effect). 245/40/17 would give you even more grip but at a cost of playfulness. From personal experience (and I didn't really believe this before), the stock tires seem to bring out the car's character while higher grip numb the experience. I'm currently on the lookout for a tire with similar DRY grip level of the stock tires but much better WET grip.

17x8 +35 is what im looking for as well and the best wheel i've found in terms of looks, price, weight and technology is the 720 FlowForm GTF1.

That's what I bought. 15.5lbs and in my budget. Every other wheel wasn't either a) in my budget or b)light enough. I found these and they look good, are light, and I got them for less than $200/wheel (Canadian).

I've looked for other 17x8s but they are either a different offset or the guys are using 215/45's. I found ONE guy using 245/40's but there was no mention of suspension settings or parts so it doesn't really help me.

I'd go with 225/45 - that's what I did on my 17x7.75 wheels. Fit is great, and the MPSS have so much grip I don't need anything wider. Plus a 225 tire is lighter than a 245 one.

225/45 or 235/45, but 225's should always be considerably cheaper because it's a more popular size.

Well guys, just wanted to thank you all. Just went with Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 2's in 225/45/17s. I let the price difference between the 225 and 245's make the call.
