Back on topic. Based on what I've heard, the Jackson Racing Supercharger kit offers the quietest operation available out of all forced induction options for these cars. It is nearly silent part throttle.

To the OP,

I've always liked this quote:
"Noise is unused energy."
-- Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, head of Audi Sport, commenting on why the R18 is so quiet
Basically what he's saying is that noise is kinetic energy, and by placing a turbocharger in the exhaust stream you soak up some of that energy and convert it to usable work. In other words, all else being equal, a turbo will be quieter than an equivalent system running NA or SC.

Just note that "all else being equal" part. Aggressive tunes, venting to atmosphere or the removal of cats, resonators and mufflers will all increase the noise of the vehicle. These are all changes people frequently make in conjunction with turbos, or that come with pre-packaged kits, and they are the reason turbos are sometimes considered louder than NA engines. None of them are required, however.

Obligatory car porn:

Am I seeing what I think I'm seeing?! Does that exhaust housing have two inlets 180 degs apart?!? That's fucking awesome!

He seemed to take your comment as insinuating that he was trying to push a product that he owned. but also said that he hasn't sold anything on these boards.

Why all the hate for AVO and Drift Office? I get that you don't like AVO's product, but the people in this thread seem like their out for blood. AVO makes a product, they have a target audience, and they're doing well. If you're not a part of their target audience move on, it's not a big deal.

Bob @Drift Office, while a fan boi of the AVO kit, has been providing info to our community for a couple of years, paying for a vendor account the whole time. He's certainly no where near as bad of a fan boi of some other vendors. Some of you are acting like he's the second coming of Toni.

The Jackson Racing supercharger kit is very quiet. It sounds like an OEM supercharger. It uses a recirculating bypass valve instead of a blowoff valve. This means that when you let off the throttle, the excess charge is not vented to atmosphere (creating a loud "PSST" sound), it instead goes back into the inlet valve. You can hear a bit of air moving, but it isn't distracting or even noticeable if you aren't listening for it.

As for the supercharger whine: it's a very feint, high-pitched hum. Have you ever been in a room full of network servers? It's a bit like that, but quieter. I hardly notice the whine, and it doesn't bother me at all on long trips.

Umm. ... Calum.... I haven't made a comment on this thread on this topic or about AVO. I only asked Bob to clarify his statement. Then I login this morning and see he replied but then delete his comment.

My comment still stands. It's childish to insinuate about a "former owner" but not post who he is talking about.

I don't "hate AVO" I had a bad experience with the kit. A few few people had similar experience and that's that. Bob is not an AVO fan boy, they're business partners which is absolutely fine.....

It's funny how anyone tries to share their bad experience with a vendor, tries to get data on the community if others are having same issues to try and get a vendor to address them so future owners don't suffer the same it's all labeled as HATE....

I still don't get where you make the great leap to say anyone is making him to be Toni. He's not.... moreso. ... I haven't even commented about the kit, or Avo or anything so where did I display my "hate"?

By the way OP. To have quiet FI you just need three basics things on your setup. A recirculated BOV, a quiet exhaust and a recirculated waste gate dump.

I have a really quiet 500 whp BRZ aside from the loud 100% VTA bov.

For exhaust, I have a straight 3 inch pipe, with an in line MagnaFlow muffler and a second big oval axle back muffler. No resonators and no cats. The only thing you can listen in my car is the turbo spool and jet sounds, never the exhaust. At idle is quieter than stock.

It was the a few people, they just seemed to jump on a band wagon of hate, and I honestly don't know why. Maybe AVO is really that bad and I missed, maybe I just misunderstood.

Anyway, sorry that I unjustly called you out.

So, I will end my part of this discussion here in that the OP asked for a Quiet FI recommendations, I put my 2 cents in, based on my experience.

While I haven't done EVERY kit out there, I have installed, tuned and driven the following setups repeatedly (sans the FA20 or the RP400) :

JRSC
KWSC
AVO Stages 1 thru X
FA20 Club
RP400
Greddy
SBD
Hexon
HKS SC
Vortech
Electric SC
and maybe one more that we won't talk about...

While this does NOT make me an expert on the subject matter, I would say that I have some insight...

I'm sure with just 270 kits sold out there, the product is MUST be bad.

Regards!

Finally, a good post that relates to the OP. I was gonna mention these exact 3 items. Do you have any pics of your exhaust by any chance?

So I just read through this whole thread in one shot, as I have been trying to figure out what I want to do for my FI for the last two years...And as of now, I kinda want to go to Drift-Office to get AVOturboworld's kit put on. Haha! The AVO kit is honestly the first one that piqued my interest back when the 86s were new, but now I'm honestly quite curious all over again. Drift-Office has stellar reviews and based on this thread I like your style. Also being in the PNW is a big win.

... You guys open weekends?

Guys :

Let me be the first to say that SportsGuy's comments are not to be discounted either. He does have first hand experience with the AVO kit, albeit an unfavorable one. I'm sure he has some valid points too!

Very good conversation via PM. Bob. Very constructive. I apologize for misunderstanding your comment. I'm glad we could iron it out. I've got nothing but respect for you and your shop. Thanks again.
