Is this a real thread?
You see, when you pull the paddle, witchcraft goes on in the engine management. This car only has one gear, but it magically is able to change to rpm, while directly attached to the wheels, to make extra donkey power.

I drove an automatic as only a test drive, but know the fundamentals. It's the same as my manual. + shifts gears up. - shift gears down. They don't damage the car unless you redline them constantly (and I don't think they will let you, but I could be wrong). I'm pretty sure they downshift (i.e. -) automatically for you. For the 'lag a bit' question, that just means your are pulling the paddle too early. Try and find the 'sweet spot' to shift. Automatics tend to shift at a higher RPM (biggest gauge on your dashboard). For economy driving, I shift at a lower RPM and tend to stay at a higher gear (like 5th for 30mph). You'll just have to play with your paddles to find when to shift for the best results. Hope this helped.

If you want to learn when to shift the paddles, use the Sport mode button and watch what the AT does on the tach. You will soon learn what the rpm wants to be at various speeds. If you count the shifts you can associate what gear the car is in at those rpm/speeds. Then use manual mode and reproduce the same shift points. After that you can modify the pattern according to your own desires...

No, the car will not let you over-rev, or under-rev (stall out) with the AT. Whether in manual mode, AT mode, or AT and manually shifting up or down, that portion is consistent. The car will not go into the red, and it will not let the revs get so low (too high a gear) so that it stalls. It also will not let you downshift into an over-rev state. (So, for example, you can't downshift to first gear when going 60 miles an hour) @SquadRogue (or anyone that cares) Basically there are three modes: Full AT: You don't do anything, car shifts by itself when it is programmed to. This will change in Sport mode (holds gear longer) for a more aggressive drive/acceleration. Full AT with Paddle Shifting: While in Full AT you can at any time change gears using the paddle shifter. The only exception is if your downshift would result in an overrev situation. If you want to accelerate quicker, simultaneously press the gas pedal and downshift with the paddles. You can typically downshift one or two gears with no problem. If in cruise on the highway you can actually skip down 3 gears if you do it fast enough. To "skip" a gear (go from 6th to 4th for example to pass) double-tap the "-" paddle. Full Manual: You do all the shifting either with the paddles or the gear selector. The car will not shift up unless told to, for example, if you start the car in first gear, and do not shift, it will bounce off the rev limiter but will not shift up. It will only automatically shift down if you are in a gear so high that once it reaches an idle RPM it would stall (say coming to a stop in 6th gear). The downshift usually occurs (at least on mine) under 750RPM. You will also have an up and/or down arrow on the dash to indicate if you can shift up or down. The hardest part for transitioning from a MT to AT with paddles was remembering to keep my foot in it at gear shifts (it does the rev matching for you). I also occasionally was known to hit a phantom clutch pedal with my left foot when shifting gears the first few times in a "high acceleration" driving event!

I usually put my neck out to try and post correct information before the thread gets sucked into a vortex of degeneration.
