Paddle Shifters 101

Paddle shifters are fun af, I ask myself why didn't I do this when I first bought the car. And well the answer is because I didn't know how to use them. Life doesn't get better than ignorance, right?

All I know about paddle shifters:

-There's a up and down arrow on the odometer screen-
-Press up to make the RPM drop and down to make the RPM rise-

My questions
how resilient are these paddle shifters i.e. Are they a liability of damaging the car?
Sometimes when I shift, I feel the car lag a little bit, am I shifting at the precise time?

-

Any other information that I should know about the paddle shifters?

Sounds broken. Trade in for a manual.

Doesn't show paddle shifters in the index and I checked Transmission page had little information about the shifters.

What questions could you have? They shift gears manually, just like you can with the stick in manual mode.

If you press the paddles too hard, you might end up blowing the welds on your intake manifold.

I'm surprised a tsunami of trolls haven't flooded this thread... yet.

The paddles simply change the gears up and down, from your post it seems like you don't know what gears do.

Think about a bicycle? Ever peddle in 1st gear vs in 5th? Same logic. Shift too early you feel a lot of resistance and hard to start moving. Don't shift? Then no matter how fast your legs are pedaling you just don't go much faster haha.

Assuming you are serious, how can you not have at least a very basic understanding of how a car and its various components work?
