Then there are the unspoken rules for 4-way stops.
If two cars stop simultaneously and they are:

Across from each other and both want to go straight – Both may go simultaneously
Across from each other and both want to turn right– Both may go simultaneously
Across from each other and both want to turn left – Both may go simultaneously and turn IN FRONT of each other
Across from each other and ONE wants to turn left and ONE wants to gostraight – Both may go simultaneously, and the one turning LEFT goes BEHIND thecar going straight.

Guess the how long the yellow light will stay on for subtract how long you think it'd been on for when you noticed it. Gauge how far you can cover in that time. Will you make it through? Yes? Go on through. No? Floor it.

Red means stop
Green means go
Yellow means GO MOTHERFUCKER BEFORE IT TURNS RED!

ok here are the rules in order of precedence...

These are the rules in California in order of precedence at a four way stop...

1) First to arrive

2) person going straight over person turning

3) person turning right over person turning left.

4) person on right versus person on left...

This gets confusing for some in circumstances where there are multiple lanes because you are required by law to turn in to the appropriate lane. If you are in the far right lane turning right, you must turn into the far right lane.

If you are in the far left lane turning left, you must turn into the far left lane and so on and so forth. If second to left lane, turn into the second to left lane..et al..

So if you are turning left from the left lane and someone is turning right from the right lane, you can BOTH go and are BOTH required to turn into the correct lane.

You miss my point. In most countries I visited yellow mean stop unless your car already pass the white stop line or is in the middle of intersection. By running a yellow light like how ppl do it in western us will get u a ticket. (Never been to east side of us so I don't know what it's like there)

*I believe us law on this is probably the same as other countries? but somehow police don't give you ticket for running yellow light.

I dont' think I've ever read a law against running a yellow light.

Well the law is Every car has to stop at a yellow light unless it is not safe to do so. (what is not safe?)

Personally if I have to lock up my brakes to stop, its not safe :p

You can't get a ticket for going through a yellow anywhere in the USA. I took a class in traffic engineering where we designed lights according to AASHTO which is used throughout the country as a standard. There is no law that states that, it is as I said before be prepared to stop or proceed with caution. There designed specifically to allow the driver time to react, either by maintaining speed and going through the intersection or stopping safety as long as they are traveling at the posted limit.

It's simple.
1. Run throught the yellow and even the first few seconds of the red as normal.
2. Check rear view mirror to see if somebody is behind you doing the same thing, but a second later than you.
3. Judge that person.

You may proceed INto an intersection on a Yellow and take as long as it takes to Clear the intersection even if that means on red. (like sitting in the middle of an intersection in the turn lane waiting for the light to change and then you "clear" even if the light has changed to red).

You may NOT proceed into an intersection if the light has changed to red.

So it just means that you had better already be IN the intersection when it turns from yellow to red.

That is the law? Or just a sort of unofficial agreement?
Pretty sure the law in all of north America is first to stop then yield to the person to the right if at same time.

Remembering who got to a 4 way stop is not difficult, 4 way stops are usually at rural intersections and less traveled streets/roads like kotu said.

And I personally have never seen a 4 way stop for a 4 lane intersection.

You yield to your left.
Don't you yield to the person at your right?

I agree, I was just explaining because chaoskaze thought it was illegal to go through a yellow which would make having a yellow light useless.
