The OFT has many selling points. The OTS tunes are just one of the points. It wasnt the first and foremost feature for me. Real time data display and logging and the ability to hold 5 tunes in which I can flash to on the go was the front runners. So when E85 is available I switch to that, when its not I switch to 93 if I have an OCT booster, if not 91, when I go to the dealer, stock tune.

ECUtek has, historically speaking, been an expensive tuning solution. Free updates to tunes has been a recent develop for many shops, and overall, ECUtek prices have dropped, due to OFT being relatively cheap.

Not trying to argue or flame. Just sharing with you why I chose the OFT. Plus I like doing my work. I am a professional now, but grew up a carpenter, so I like hands on approach. I renovated my apartment, install my own parts, edit my own tunes.

I have also learned more about tuning as a whole with the OFT. Instead of paying someone to tune it for me, I read, learn, and make the changes myself. Often while on the move. To each his own.

EDIT: Also there are tools online that do most of the tuning work for you.Example @vgi MAF scaling tool.

I'm not insulting you Kool. Crazy in a world full of 'sane' people is a compliment.. sorry if you took it wrong. You go against the grain and while the results are usually shady and your understanding isn't the best (refer: your MAF Mystery and suspension threads- admit it, you were straight wrong about a fair bit of spring and suspension geometry characteristics and got refuted by reputable users with demonstrated knowledge in those areas. That is how we learn, though, by interacting with others ), you push forward, learn, and apply. You know more than me about most things automotive it seems and are willing to go where none else have gone (although, lets admit it, your anti-reversion header idea... we're still waiting to see the dynos for that one)

I'm not putting a catless header + grimspeed intake FR-S on the dyno, to me that's a waste of 400 dollars right now. You may refer to my other posts and reviews about suspension and driveline bits and see that I am putting emphasis to those areas right now while I determine the best FI route to go and am not afraid in the slightest to show what I have done to my platform in the past two months since I bought it.

Tuned my own Stage 2 EJ205 rex platform at 110k block miles that ran for 60k additional with boost pressures of 18 pounds on the TD04 and dropped in an RA transmission with only jack stands and a harbor freight tanny jack when I was still in high school- I may not be a guru but I'm no spring chicken. I am going to be posting logs soon of my OFH UEL + grimspeed intake soon, perhaps you'll like to see them.

Apologies for the thread necro, but I'm still unclear.

I want to install my catless (JDL UEL) header and overpipe/front pipe next weekend, but probably won't get it in for a tune for a week or two after that.

Is this a risky proposition? Is my ECU going to do anything shitty once it notices that there's no more catalytic converter? Obviously I'll get a CEL in short order, but am I damaging anything by running this way?

I understand the gains aren't going to be great until I get it tuned, but I'd rather bolt the shit on myself (easy enough) and then go in for a protune.

You will be fine without the tune ur fuel trims will level out any rich or lean conditions caused by the header and u won't cause any damage

@Jar thanks for raising the dead! Just for an update, I actually took the advice of just getting the tune, via OFT, and my car feels grrreat! I also searched around for headers. Started looking at reviews from members on various headers, watched ouTube videos also looked at dyno charts provided by manufacturers. So I decided to go with OFH. It's in transit now and should reach me sometime next week. Now I am in search of a local business that does ceramic coatings. If any of you in the nj/nyc area know of a place please let me know.
Thanks again.

if you get cel you will disable cruise control as well, you could try 02 spacer till you get tune but don't always work

may not cause limp home mode, you can reset cel with battery disconnect

Does p0420 put the car in limp mode? It never did on any other Suba but I guess this Suba isn't like any other
