K&N drop in filter. I'm looking for one myself for an easy 5ish hp. It's an easy swap and a good filter to have if you have a stock intake.

I put in a K&N filter last Sunday. Lets be honest, you aren't really going to notice massive gains with 5HP more, however, my car does pull ever so slightly stronger now.
The K&N filter is much thinner than the cotton wool looking stock filter, so the engine is definitely breathing easier. |

K&N would be best value for money in South Africa,
You can get this at ATS in Randburg, Gauteng. (Not sure about CPT and DBN options) (When purchased mine I paid around R800 (Cannot remember exactly) http://www.ats-motorsport.co.za/ There are a few Vendors in the US that keep them, but specific vendor shipping costs vary, also consider the import duties etc....Im sure shipping it will cost less than ATS, But if you dont want to wait and deal with the hassle of shipping etc ATS is the way to go... If anyone else has knowledge of Drop In Filters in SA, please share, If you going the 'import way': Here is a screenshot of my personal spreadsheet filtered for K&N DIF and the Blitz DIF. (These have estimated prices) (Theres no 'price check' apps for mods have to do it manually)You should check on www.ebay.com and www.amazon.com as well Hope it helps, |

Thanks BRY100 and FT 86 SM GP
Was leaning towards the k&n. Understand it's not going to be massive gains but would like to see a slight improvement. Appreciate the feedback. |

Hey @Desi Gt86,
Welcome to the forums ![]() We have noticed a very slight bump in airflow when using an AFE and K&N drop-in filter. Remember that the results you see for tests done internationally will probably show a higher hp/kw gained then what we should experience here on our fuel assuming the tests were done on the required octane for the 86 there and 95 Pump fuel here, however it still gives you an idea as to which flows better. Due to the extra airflow from a drop-in filter, it will cause the car to run a little leaner which will usually result in more power, however a leaner car is more octane dependent for pre-detonation prevention. As @FT_86_SM_GP said, the K&N will be your best bang for buck. We have found its airflow increase to be similar to that of a AFE filter. Another advantage, and probably he biggest, is that drop-in filters are usually washable. This means that instead of waiting 30000-45000km (which is far to long for our local conditions IMO) for your filter to be replaced by the dealer, you can wash your filter say every 10000km and simply swap back to stock when its time for a service.

Is HKS an oiled filter or dry? Couldn't find clarification through threads or description of product!

HKS is usually dry foam but I could be wrong. I like the Afe dry filters.
