Can't we all just stop the speculation and just wait? We have a definite range of 100-200 HP in the U.S. Everything is just hearsay until official specs arrive plus I feel like anything over 130 in the ND will be awesome at 2200 lb weight

You know our cars make 160hp to the wheels right? Not to mention it weighs 500lbs more.

Whoa bro... Keep those facts Outta here. The 86 is a race car! 200 hp is perfect for stomping lambos... 199hp is too low and 201hp is too high. It's just so amazing that it landed right on 200... Because that's the perfect number

The figure for the Miata was crank hp, yes? In which case ours make 200 hp. Using the same drivetrain loss percentage that means the Miata puts 124 to the wheels.

My 1989 CA18DE had 145 hp, 19 fricken 89. THIS is the best Mazda can do? I remain unimpressed.

Speaking of "facts", weren't you the one who claimed that 155 hp would give it a better power-to-weight ratio than the FR-S?

Not sure you have much room to talk about facts.

The Honda s2000 put out 40 more crank hp from its 2L engine 13 years before the frs came out. Besides, you're basing your comments purely on speculation and it makes you look foolish.

Which supports my argument that the miata's engine is pathetic. Congradulations. Don't mistake my mentioning the FA20 as some measure of a love for it, I have none. At the very best, I would call that engine "adequate." The S2000 engine, yeah, now you are in epic territory.

Honda could not get that 240HP 2.0L to pass today's US emission standards though. I am not a big fan of the Subaru FA20 either but 200HP out of 2.0L NA motor is pretty good now. There is a pretty short list of engine manufacturers who can match it and get the engine certified for CA and the rest of the US.

Mazda stated early on that the MX-5 had to at least match the current cars HP so my guess has been 170HP all along. We will find out in the next couple months. A spokesperson at the Mazda display at Daytona told me the car is expected to go on sale sometime in August.
