If and when the 86 gets a power increase, people will be complaining about... Power. For some, power is like a drug. At first, they are happy with what they have. However, once they get used to certain amount, the thrill goes away and they want more. Go to Gen 1 NSX forum. They get trolled because... Not enough power. Go to Audi R8 Forum. One owner advises prospective owners... Get the V10 because the V8 lacks power. Power junkies will never be satisfied.

The big thing is weight, I fully expect that a horsepower increase will only come into play as they chuck sound deadening and creature comforts at this thing to draw in the 'average consumer' bumping this car up to $30k and 3,000 lbs. I have not forgotten press releases about Scion 'moving upmarket'.

Just like the 911, MR2, RX-7, Miata, S2000, 240Z, M3, or any other number of sports cars, the first iteration will be the purest, rawest, most enthusiast minded offering. All of the above cars got faster, bigger engines, more amenities, bigger tires, better brakes, more competent suspension, and on and on, but the first generations are held in the highest regard by many for the things that were 'lost' along the way.

Edit: Don't know why I didn't think of it, can we make a subforum for the next generation car? Immediately move all discussions about next year power increases and such over there so I can only enter when I feel the need to pontificate and argue?
This on all counts.

Lots of people complain about creaks, rattles and general "cheapness", so expect 100+lb added insulation and another 100+lbs of extra features. It'll under-steer more so that kids stop crashing so much, and the transmission will be more vague to stop people bitching about actually feeling the syncros engage. Oh, and it'll be bigger, lots of people for some reason buy this car expecting to use the back seats. I have no doubts that a next gen model will be a more comfortable more "livable" daily driver for the mundanes, but I'll likely be keeping my stripped out underpowered trackrat ZN6 for the foreseeable future.

We are now officially way off topic, if there ever was one.
A good thread can survive a bit of a derailment and come back as strong as ever! Weak ones...not so much. Sort of the Darwinism of the internet.

We just got our first 5 Guys in town here last year. Was an hour wait for the first month or so. Now you could shoot a cannon through the place.

I'll bet the next gen is autonomous
People will complain that it's not fast enough, but seems to enjoy itself quite a lot in the bends.

Automakers, get on it. If I am to own autonomous cars, I better damn well be able to converse with them... And they better all have turbo boost!

One of the division of the company I work for is leading the charge in development of autonomous cars and believe me they are closer to being reality then anybody would suspect!
