OP: Find a used nameless or JDL header if you want to max your gains for the price.

Tune wise, there is zero proof of a flash counter so I wouldn't let that bother you but if you're going to spend the money on a header, get it tuned. You'll be much happier.

I'm ecutek tuned by HRI Tuning and I would 110% recommend him for a custom remote tune for your car. I drove around on my JDL EL before being tuned and while I did notice a difference, having the tune is night and day compared to the stock tune. The car pulls so much harder to redline and I couldn't picture driving the car otherwise.

My cost including license was less than $560 and he provided the ecutek cable while I was being tuned. Free updates for life. Read the reviews: https://m.facebook.com/hrituning

DAMN!! this just confirms it.. i was told by my tuner that the only one that removes the dip is the JDL and there it is. Congrats!

Not to nitpick or flame ya, but nobody said that a header won't do anything without a tune. Everyone that has voted tune with a header has given legitimate reasons why they say so (except Kool.. he's batshit crazy ). It's about the area under the curve throughout the whole powerband that counts!

Very nice JDL and tune btw. Drift O does it proper

Many of the upper tier headers can remove the dip. A lot of it is in the tune itself, but you can only go as far as the header lets you. It just so happens JDL has some of the top headers for our platform.

Haha fair enough, I just skimmed through and I'm sure I read a few people posting that headers wouldn't do much without a tune.

Even though a tune would be optimal, in my opinion I think people should buy a header first so they don't have to get re-tuned afterwards.

Or you could go with OFT and change your tune whenever you want.... for free!

Whatever floats your boat, I don't believe in "one-size-fits-all" for tunes, but that's my personal opinion.

Thats why most people buy the OFT, because you can change the "one size fits all" tune into "the tune for your car" and you can do this for free, with the help of the internet

Usual craziness? I'm not the one shooting his mouth off without a bit of proof to back it up. Let's see your dyno? Why don't you show the work you've done to your car. What you're afraid of, that people will find out you really know nothing at all? If all you can do is insult others, you must be compensating for some major inferiority.

I just used my OFT and RomRaider to adjust my MAF scale for my new intake. I had LTFT's, (fuel trims) up to 30 over and with the new scale I've got it consistently below 10, usually below 5. The power my car makes, on the same tune, is way better. No dyno results yet, but it is definitely noticeable.
The factory tune is close enough to run OK, if you leave on the factory front pipe with cat, and the stock muffler, but if you replace those with free-flowing aftermarket units you'll be losing out on at least 15 horsepower and 10 ft lbs of torque. Get the OFT. It's easy to use, and safe. It has the flexibility of open-source development, so you can make the best tunes for the hardware you have installed. You can also change the tune when you update your hardware. If changing the filter in your airbox changes the MAF scaling, how can an off-the-shelf tune possibly keep up with all the changes you could make to your intake and exhaust systems. With the OFT you can change the tunes yourself without paying the high cost of having it tuned to match every change you make.

Most ecutek tuners don't make you pay for updates though, at least not HRI Tuning. Free for the life of the car while NA and then discounted price if you go FI.

Why pay for a device who's main selling point is the free OTS tunes and ease of tuning when you're just going to customize it yourself? Surely a master tuner is going to deliver better results.
