The point of the matter is, in total, the frs cost me $32k. It is now worth $17k. $15k loss if I were to sell today.

Well, my last few cars were an 86 Caddy (lasted 1 year), a 92 Escort (lasted 2 years), and 98 Corolla (lasted 4 years), All were used.
Then I got my first new car, a 2010 Elantra. Which was night and day in reliability. No joke, the car never broke down in the years I owned it. The HVAC worked perfectly, the suspension worked as intended, and the transmission didn't skip 3rd gear. To me, it was a unicorn after getting used cars with what I could afford. I sold that car for roughly $7500, which was well below market value, but I sold it to a family member for the cost a dealer was going to give me for it. I might eat depreciation with my new BRZ, but the result of that is a car that I know is reliable, has full coverage, is equipped the way I want it, and is always able to get me where I needed to go. I also know the complete service history, as well as what parts went into it. It's absolutely worth buying a new car IF IT'S YOUR DD. Used is nice if and only if it's a second car, and you're not relying on it to get you to your job. |

Yes and no. I hate watching other people ruin my new car with rocks, door dings etc etc etc. Literally don't think I can do it again.
