Remember, the price of the car was NOT, the Government and the dealer added $5000 to the $27,000 price of the car. So really, in three years the worst case scenario is $2,300/year loss in value.

My amortization figures out-the door cost on a cash sale depreciated to zero over ten years. so, I am happy with $3,200 per year cost to own.

If you MUST drive for free, there is only one way that I am aware. Buy a well restored classic car of your choice, drive and maintain it meticulously and sell it for what you pain at the end of the five years, or in-between if someone wants it more than you do.
Well if you took the time to read through my posts, I did state it really isn't the depreciation that kills me. It's big brother and all the added fees that racks up on a new car that just isn't worth buying new in the end. For me that is. A certified used car like my wife's Lexus is how I will be doing my shopping from now on. You save a heap load in the end.

The point of the matter is, in total, the frs cost me $32k. It is now worth $17k. $15k loss if I were to sell today.

Well, my last few cars were an 86 Caddy (lasted 1 year), a 92 Escort (lasted 2 years), and 98 Corolla (lasted 4 years), All were used.

Then I got my first new car, a 2010 Elantra. Which was night and day in reliability. No joke, the car never broke down in the years I owned it. The HVAC worked perfectly, the suspension worked as intended, and the transmission didn't skip 3rd gear. To me, it was a unicorn after getting used cars with what I could afford. I sold that car for roughly $7500, which was well below market value, but I sold it to a family member for the cost a dealer was going to give me for it.

I might eat depreciation with my new BRZ, but the result of that is a car that I know is reliable, has full coverage, is equipped the way I want it, and is always able to get me where I needed to go. I also know the complete service history, as well as what parts went into it.

It's absolutely worth buying a new car IF IT'S YOUR DD. Used is nice if and only if it's a second car, and you're not relying on it to get you to your job.

Yes and no. I hate watching other people ruin my new car with rocks, door dings etc etc etc. Literally don't think I can do it again.

Man that sucks.

I bought my FR-S brand new March 2013 after TT&L and down payment I financed $24500

As of now my loan balance is: $17620

My car is worth: $18695

So in 1 year and 9 months I already have equity in my car.

Sure I cannot sell it for what I paid but what fool would think that? I've been driving it for 1 year and 9 months!!
