BRZ LED Strip in Headlights (bulb)

Does anyone know how the LED strips are powered within the BRZ headlight? Are they similar to the BMW headlights where you can swap out the LEDs for brighter and different colored LEDs etc? I looked on the owners manual uploaded and it doesn't seem to mention what is the bulb replacement which makes me also think that its all built into the headlight that it is not replaceable. Thoughts?

The manual says it is replacable but you have to have a dealer do it.

Quote:
Replacing the following bulbs
If any of the lights listed below has burnt out, have it replaced by
your SUBARU dealer.
œ Headlight high and low beams
œ Parking lights
œ Daytime running lights
œ Stop/tail lights
œ High mounted stoplight
So we will have to wait for the service manual or for someone to get one and check it.

They are LEDs apparently

LED light bulbs
The parking lights, daytime running lights, stop/tail lights and high mounted
stoplight consist of a number of LEDs. If any of the LEDs burn out, take your
vehicle to your SUBARU dealer to have the light replaced.

Service manual would be nice. I checked with the Subaru rep that had the car here over the weekend and he seemed clueless he told me the whole headlight had to be replaced LMAO sounded like inaccurate info to me and very cost inefficient.

Most likely its driven by an HID igniter ballast like the BMW/GM/Mercedes/everyone else units.

I don't see any specific mentioning of these types of lights.

I suspect they are CCFL style lights like BMW's angel eyes. Could be LED based, but the light is very even it seems so they would have to be well designed to pull that off with led's. Hopefully they are LED based due to lifespan.

I doubt it's not user replaceable. The manual tells you to have it replaced by the dealer, but in fairness it also tells you to have the dealer replace the headlight bulbs as well and I really doubt that that requires a trip to the stealership.

Yeah I assume that too, but we won't know for sure until we get the service manual or someone gets the car to take a look at it.

Depends entirely on whether or not the part can be ordered without the entire headlight assembly. If not, ouch.

This is an old thread, but relevant as I'm looking to change/ upgrade this LED on my BRZ. Nothing in the owners manual that I could find. I thought that it might just be refracted from the main HID bulb, but I was disappointed to find out otherwise...anyone know how to change this out? Any DIY for it? I couldn't find one...

Search for boomerang. There's a DIY LED driver install as well as a PnP interst thread going on.

I saw those threads but what I'm really looking for is a way to change the actual LEDs, not change the wiring for them.

They are mounted on a board. one from the top, one from the bottom. Not sure what type of LED it is. I've just got a set apart and had a look.

because they are standard lumiled rebels, it is possible to change them, as lumiled rebels are offered in just about every color under the sun. but you will need solder reflow equipment to do it correctly.

however, if you change them, i would recommend replacing their "driver" with an actual regulated constant current driver as well, to maintain a better reliability.. i am currently biased towards the lux drive lineup..

if any of that is over your head, that means you need to do a lot more research before considering attacking a project like this.

I must ask why would you want to change them?
