Wow Toyota did very well by you and there's nothing to worry about with a rebuilt engine, because if anything does happen between now, and 8 years and 122k miles from now you're covered.

Sweet deal. Ad a regular oil-level check to your weekly PM schedule.

Very happy to hear that Toyota stepped up and went the extra mile(age) beyond what they were contractually obligated to do. I wouldn't be concerned about longevity. I once had a new Land Cruiser (FJ-80) with a warped deck that required a new short block. After repair I sold it to a friend who recently passed 300,000 miles with no issues.
Might as well have them perform the HPFP TSB while it's in the shop (crickets). Of course they won't be able to hear it and with everything else you've endured I'm sure they'll take your word for it. Still, I'm curious why the short block "cracked". Did it swallow a valve and hole a piston? |

Personally, I would take the deal.
Maybe you didn't drive it enough. Now you can go put some miles on it and stop worrying. |

That HPFP tsb is just wasting everyone's time and money though..... We should be good stewards of the earth and think about all these perfectly good fuel pumps being thrown out due to people's insecurities that others will laugh at their noisy idle

They just mean it is "new" to that service department each time. Take it off one car send it to the next dealership, put it on that one and send the one from it on. Sort of like a cricket infested chain letter.

You're not getting a rebuilt engine. You're getting a brand new short block (engine block, crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons, typically) that has all new bearings, rings, etc. So just exactly like your car had when you drove it off the lot. They're just transferring the rest of the components (cylinder heads, water pump, alternator, that sort of stuff) to the new short block. So in essence what you've got is still a car with a measly 2400 miles on it, only with brand new pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft, bearings, etc. Like everyone else has said, you're getting a sweet deal. |

Yeah, I've read that around here but mine got the free v.2 HPFP about 2K miles ago and crickets haven't returned.
Not sure how long it took to replace, I dropped it at opening and rode their courtesy van (with complementary coffee and pastry!) home and back later that afternoon. |
