Here is my definition of a Sportscar.
MUST FALL INTO AT LEAST TWO OF THE BELOW CATEGORIES. - Two doors (Not including Vans or Trucks) - No rear seats (Not including Vans or Trucks) - High hp per litre ratio engine AND/OR Turbocharged - RWD or AWD format - Sold exclusively as a sports themed vehicle, not derived from a economy base model Obviously there will be a few exceptions to the rule, but I find the above to be a pretty good guide. |

GT-R has a back seat. I will notify Nissan of its mistake.

Front wheel drive cars do not handle like rear wheel or all wheel drive cars. The difference is enough to disqualify them. If it's FWD, you're just dragging a dead rear end around. You really have one too many wheels adding weight. You might as well add a trailer.
There is no such thing as a "purpose built" FWD sports car. If it were purpose built for performance, it wouldn't be FWD. Is it a hilarious back seat? |

Hell, an Impreza L GC8 just won Super Lap Battle. It's arguably the fastest time attack car in the country right now. (Neck and neck with the FXMD NSX) |

Well, it's not a sports car... because it's not a car. It's still can be a RACE truck. STi's aren't necessarily sports cars but they can be RACE/Rally cars. Just because it isn't a "sports car"(By your limited definition which not everyone agrees and nor will everyone ever 100% agree). Quit trying to push your ideals using bad examples like trucks. Camry isn't a "sports car", but there are "race car" version of them. I don't mind you using different cars to try and prove your point, but please stop bringing up trucks, because no one said anything about trucks except you. We all know trucks aren't cars. They never will be, but there are RACE versions of those vehicles out there.

Just update the S15 exterior design and suspension design/geometry, give us an inline 4 turbo and a car weighing 2500-2800 lbs.... BOOM, car of the year. A new light sports coupe from Nissan with a small turbo engine and suspension design similar to the 370z would rape... The 370z definitely handles better than the old Silvias in terms of design. The car itself is just too heavy and the engine not that impressive. An updated modern Silvia is what we need. This... this is what dreams are made of... ;( |

However, there are plenty of performance cars that aren't "sports cars" and can, in fact, be faster on a track (no, not offroad truck racing in the dirt) than sports cars. So, who really cares? It comes down to taste and opinions. I'm a diehard RWD fan, but nowadays AWD is dominating racing events where RWD and AWD are racing together. By the way, there are many who would argue that the FRS/BRZ/GT86 aren't necessarily sports cars. They are most similar to the 240sx/Silvia, which originally wasn't really considered a sports car. It was considered a new "turbo machine".... came with 4 seats.... not extremely sporty stock... a good looking RWD economy car that can be made to be fast, basically... but not a "sports car" in the same vein as an S2000, Miata, Lotus, etc.... The FRS is very similar. It's pretty much the S16 Nissan never gave us, only without a turbo. Although it has great steering and handling stock, it's pretty much a modified Impreza in many ways. I'm 100% certain the idea for the FRS/BRZ/86 came from drifters who were using RWD-converted Imprezas in competition. Hence, the partnership with Subaru to build a production version... The classic definition of a sports car, in my mind, will always be a small, light, agile 2 seat open-top performance car. But there are many other types of performance cars nowadays... and some of them are just as, if not more, exciting. RWD is, of course, more dangerous, more exciting, and more pure. Hence, IndyCar and F1. Therefore, RWD will always be champion :P but to discount the AWD WRXs and Evos that kill on the track nowadays is dumb... |
