Not saying the OP thinks this, but coming from working retail for about 8 years in a hobby shop, many people really do not understand what a warranty acually is. Some seem to think it is an insurance policy. People will crash their new RC car into a curb at 40mph and ask if there is a warranty on it... I would end up usually just having to give them free labor on the repair to try to make them happy.

Also, I could see this costing more than we think it does to produce. While it seems like they are selling a lot of tablets to this community, it really isn't high volume in the grand scheme of things.

My take is that you'll get a new tablet for $200 and they'll just discard your current one. I personally think it's overpriced - as my take on the business model is that the $500 for the OFT itself is like a user license for the device. Them replacing the tablet for you still keeps the number of users, net-net, the same so long as they take your broken one from you. Since the business is portrayed as, you're paying $500 for the device, I can see why they would want to charge a higher price. Ideally, they would charge you the actual replacement cost for the device but hey, it's still a business I guess. I can't imagine that it actually takes $200 to produce one of these but I could easily be wrong...
Thanks for the input. I understand physics damage isn't covered by any warranty. But at the same time, I was hoping for some sort of love by this company as I was an early adopter of the OFH+OFT. $200 isn't bad at all considering the fact I would get a new one shipped.

To me it's just one of those thing where I wish I had known it was that cheap. Probably would have bought a case and what not to keep it protected from being dropped, squeezed , mishandled etc.

I don't get people's reaction to me asking a (dumb) question but a "no" would have been enough lol

Looks like I have to pony up the $200 for a replacement tablet, although it's just the screen that I need replaced.

Trust me, if I could replace the screen myself, I would but I suppose that's not an option.

I completely understand where your coming from as far as people not knowing what a warranty is.

I didn't mean for it come off as me trying to get it covered under warranty.i really just wanted advice, I know physica damage isn't covered by warranty.

Some people are quick to call others trolls, which I have no problem in doing myself lol but oh well.

You're not just paying for the tablet... you're paying for the continued improvements to it's software, tunes, customer service, etc.

This is the same for ANYTHING you buy. Profits (especially for small businesses) are usually poured back into the business to improve the business. It's not like they're getting rich off these things...

@Poodles agreed, but he's already bought into it with his first purchase. I'm just saying, if it were me, I'd charge replacement cost. And that could be $200. Reason I doubt that is they clearly are pricing based on demand. Look at the porsche oft's - they sell for what, $799? Don't they advertise that all oft's can be used for any platform application by switching templates?

Honestly I'm not sure what you expected, it's a tablet. Would you give your 3 year old nephew an iPad without a case and expect it to not get broken?

I had a similar heartbreaking story.
My nephew swung a bad and broke my new 60" LED TV.

The manufacturer had the balls to tell me it wasn't covered and only wanted to repair it for 50% of it's original price.

People today, I tell ya.

Kids, I feel you. As much as you keep your eye on them, they manage to be sneaky little devils in some way lol

Yes, but was it covered by a 100% no questions asked sarcasm resistant warranty?

I think only the BMW and FT86 units are compatible.

Correct, well almost. The BMW, FT86 and MX5 OFTs are interchangeable since they are all at the same $500 price point. The Porsche OFTs are priced at $599 (NA) and $799 (Turbo) so they aren't interchangeable with the lower priced OFTs. That said, I think $200 for a brand new OFT to replace a user damaged OFT is fair. Officially we don't cover damage caused by abuse but as a courtesy we extend this $200 offer as we see fit. We aren't a huge company so it's not like we can sweep unexpected costs under the rug and not feel in the bottom line. But we do what we reasonably can to keep our customers happy.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Cheers
Shiv
