And FYI to others - D48 grey wire is Pin 12, not 17.
My Failsafe is connected to the ILL cable and it dims.

Take note to see if your gauge requires + to dim or ground.

If +, go to the ILL+ cable and ground, go to the ILL- cable.

If its the Failsafe don't worry, it can be configured for either/or.

I have the same part number as you, 30-4900. The instructions are not clear, but if you say it works in either, then I will just do pin 10 as mentioned. Thanks again.

Yea with the Failsafe don't worry. connect it to pin 10. If when you try it the results are opposite (Dims on light OFF and bright on lights ON), then just connect it to the computer and configure it. Best gauge BTW.

Showing some snap shots of my install and a brightness demonstration.

For the dimming feature - I tapped into the stereo harness. Purple wire with silver stripes on bottom right of photo (pin 10 of 10). It worked first try.

I just wired my failsafe gauge in last night. Here's what worked for me:

Illumination - connected to the violet (purple) wire coming off the dimmer switch on the dash. Works fine.

Tach signal - my car didn't have the "certified ECU box" described earlier in this thread. My car is a BRZ premium trim (no push button start, etc), and I think this is the commonality with the other member who didn't have this additional ECU box as well. I found the set of 4 pink wires (injectors) coming off the main ECU and tapped into the the one that was easiest to reach. Everything works fine. I had to set the pulses/rev in the SW to 1/2.

Okay, so...running two gauges: AEM wideband A/F and Auto Meter Vacuum/Boost. AEM needs 12v for power and the Auto Meter just needs it for the backlight. Looking for a simple splice location that I can use quick tap connectors or the like.

Gauge pod is a custom vent pod that uses the driver's side angled dash vent. all wires running down behind where dimmer/trunk release button is.

So any tips for some quick 12v to power these?

Hi guys, I'm installing my own buttons. Does anyone know what the luminosity of the OEM button backlight LEDs are? I want to match the same intensity.

Edit: 1500 mcd to match the power window buttons, probably 2100 mcd for the dash buttons (although couldn't get the dimmer thing to work)

Followup question, does anyone know if the B-W PWM wire is inverted (like longer pulses if i turn the dial dimmer)? or is it fine to splice into to power my LEDs?

Edit: nope, doesn't work. Seems to be inverted (when full brightness, shorter pulses, but can't confirm because I have a cheaper multimeter). Spliced the purple wire instead.

anyways, initially when I found the A35 pin 15 connector to be an empty pin with no wires coming out of it, I didnt want to just hook it up and see if it works without checking it. So today I finally pulled out my oscilloscope and checked that pin to find a nice clean signal coming out of it. Found some pins laying around and hooked that wire up to my IQ3 and there we have it! tach signal
Great information!! I am also looking to pull tach signal from A35-15 for a shifter buzzer. Can you please confirm what size pin is needed? I will need to see what I can find to get the job done without damaging anything

I'd like to zombie this thread for some help as I'm stumpt.

I'm trying to get my Tanabe oled gauges to dim.

Here is the wiring off the gauges.

Red- Constant Power (Fused) +12v
White- Ignition Switch (Accessory) +12v
Black- Ground (-)
Oragne- Illumination +12v

I have the gauges all wired up except for the orange illumination wire and the gauges are running FULL Brightness. I've tried tapping into the radio dimmer (purple wire/pin10 on the 10-pin connector) wire and when I connect the gauges they dim ever so slightly, however there is no change if I toggle the headlights or interior dimming.

Do I have the wrong wire?

Thanks

hello,
Nice of you to help with the ecu visuals. This helped me find the starting line to get the apexi avcr installed; however, im not sure which wire to tap for the speed, throttle, 2xground, power/ignition. Can these be shown?
thank you much

So if I were installing a Autometer Tach or External Shift light I would tap into the Pink wire correct?
