Do you have any info on the pressure drop associated with adding an oil cooler? Probably not a lot but I don't think I've seen pressure data on a stock engine yet.

from one of their facebook posts:

"As per our post from August the Bellhousing featured in this kit can be used on the SG series [365Nm (270ft.lb) and RD6 series [880Nm (650ft.lb)] transmission, so regardless of your Torque rating we will have a solution covered. The bigger transmissions of course would require some Tunnel modification. The SG featured here will handle any NA application and mild force-induction situations. When viewing the Torque-Ratings we give our products, bear in mind that these are for 24 Hour Endurance racing, with professional teams, drivers, race cars and slick tyres. It has been suggested that the SG could potentially be weaker than the stock transmission due to size etc. We can assure you that it is much more capable than the stock transmission! Don't be fooled by size and always take "Torque-Ratings" published cautiously. Our Torque-Ratings are not "Failure-Ratings" in any way shape or form! This is not what you can say about most transmission companies........"

That scares me. 10 w 40 seems to work real well. Someone tested 50w and if I remember correctly oil temps went way up. I just see there being enough bearing clearance for that.

Pretty much get it out of your head bearing clearance or any motor clearances in this engine limit the viscosity you run. Trust your oil pressure gauge as it does not lie or have an opinion

Stay away from widespread oil viscosities because they aren't as stable at high temps. I have tested them without very good results. This is due to the polymers they have to add. I run Red Line 50w Race for what it's worth.

All coolers have some pressure drop but that drop is offset by the cooler oil having more viscosity at a lower temp. Remember viscosity is rated at 100c only!

Widespread meaning... something like 10w30? 10w40?

More like 0w40, from earlier in the thread.

No. Like just mentioned a widespread would be 0w40, 5w50, 10w60, etc. Better would be 10w30, 15w40, 20w50, and the best would be straight weights like Red Line 30, 40, or 50 as they are more stable at very high oil temps (they flow like regular multi-grade oils when cold however).

You stopped us from looking at the wrx. Thanks.

I'll be switching to 30wt Motul or Redline on my next change.

I feel like the STI stuck with the EJ because of the limits with the oiling system used for the FA currently. I'm sure they'll work it out in time but hopefully they don't just make it adequate for oem power levels.
