I think you guys have reassured the reliability of the FRS and have given me a good idea on what to do next. I think I need to get to test driving everything and see what I think in the end. I think I can deal with the lower functionality of the FRS while getting a great driving experience. Im going to test out everything and see how it goes. Ill have to find out for myself if the fun is really worth a loss in function. Thank you all for your input! I might see you guys in the future!

Good Point, I know that car dealerships try to make it an emotional experience which can lead to you getting a bad deal or something that you really didnt want just because of their trickery. But Emotionally, the FRS is my choice and then the Gen. I just wanted some reassurance or ideas on my other logical ideas. Obviously I also have the pressure of the parents here. Even though Im paying for the car, they want me to get something that makes more sense. Dad tried to convince me to go with the Prius instead. Though it makes sense from their POV since they are older folks who dont understand the car enthusiasts.

I spend at up to 14 hours a week commuting in mine, all at highway speeds (one plant is 2 hours away the other is 45 minutes). I find it is probably one of the best cars I have ever had for that purpose (although 2 hours in a straight line is not fun) as I am comfortable and relaxed in knowing the car will do what I ask of it should anything happen. Drove 3 different generations of Lancers and never felt that sense of ease. In fact passing truck on a windy day was sometimes a study in object terror!

And don't get a prius, ever. Those nasty, disgusting, vile things are everywhere on the road. Yuck. Quote:
and backroom space for "moments" will quickly be unimportant not too long after high school haha. None of the cars listed make great extreme weather cars. Have you considered a wrx? AWD, quick, easily modded, pretty roomy etc. |

Lower insurance rates than all the others on the list.
Going to be an ongoing expense as long as you own it.

My subjective judgement from all of your comments and current situation is to keep that beautiful Solara, get a drop-in air filter, catback exhaust, stickier tires, polish the headlight covers (!) and once you finish your residency get an FT-1.

Wait, how long will you be expecting to drive/keep this car?
Are you going to have kids any time soon? Do you drive more than 1 person around? EDIT: Just saw you're pre-med. If so do your grades warrant you to stay in the states for med school? If not you might want to stick with the solara for a bit, go where you need to and pick up a sweet car when you get back. Don't want that to come off negatively I have a lot of family/friends in a very similar career path who had to readjust things for their stays abroad / their life through the shit hole that med-school app process is

OP, sounds like you want a nice highway cruiser that won't see much spirited/track use. This car is not for you. It will be too noisy and too slow for what it seems like you want out of the car. Like others have said probably a gen coupe or mustang is what will float your boat. But I suggest test driving all 3 to make sure.
