Stage 2 Cosworth Kit Preview!!!!

I'm not one to bitch about how people spend their money, that's a personal choice. However, people should consider that $10K can get you a fully rebuilt motor and lots of choices in how to use it. I'd look into new or redone heads to improve VE first if I wanted to go down the rabbit hole to an empty wallet.

On one hand, this will be a better overall solution than the Innovate system but at significantly higher price. On the other, it's just an improved Innovate type PD system for a lot more money. To be honest, I'd expect more innovation from Cosworth than this. In my opinion they are simply applying their expertise to refine currently available solutions. I would rather have seen something that brings us a solution from a Formula 1 company no one else can offer.

This is like taking an Alfa 4C, adding coilovers, new pads, a remap and slapping a Ferrari badge on it and charging 2-3x's the price over the Alfa.

Still think it's too expensive? Modding cars is too expensive in general. Next time I'm buying a faster car to start with.

I do still think it's too expensive, but this gives some food for thought.

I don't think the Tomei header is in the same class as the Nameless so lets add $500 for that. Then add custom tune. Then add the hours of testing that Cosworth has done... And, add something for better resale value of a Cosworth badged kit vs a homegrown kit based on a Vortech.

I personally find the Cosworth kit a better deal in that light. A MUCH better deal.

I am however surprised it does not include an oil cooler...

yes but let's not forget the total fiasco with their Miata Supercharger kit they no longer name the kit as "Cosworth" ( I think they are now listed as "FM" SC kit which stands for "Flying Miata)" possibly due to catastrophic failures, track use and liquid intercooler that sits in the engine bay don't mix well in my opinion.. in other words you don't always get what you pay for it

- Unlike other kits, Cosworth supplies a new 3-Bar MAP / MAF sensor that is fitted after the intercooler. This means that the ECU is using correctly measured air temp, rather than derived temp from a calculation. They believe they are unique in this area!.

divided by 1.36 (roughly) so it is like 290 hp and 224 lbft torque at flywheel, not bad but not mind blowing either considering the fact the kit costs almost twice as much as the Kraftwerks kit and it lacks the linear tq curve that other positive displacement Superchargers..so if I don't have the linear/early torque advantage of a Innovate/Sprintex kit and track-ability advantage of the Rotrex units, what do I gain with this kit? brand name?

Tomei is one of the best, if not *the* best, engine builders in Japan. Their products are top, top, top notch. I don't know what a Nameless header costs relative to a Tomei one, but I can assure you the Tomei header is at least as good as the Nameless header, and in my instance, it's ceramic coated to boot. Also consider that Vortech was first to market and thus has the most kits on the road and the most miles logged in testing and real world driving. My kit has a few revisions since the original kit that addressed minor issues over time. And the numbers speak for themselves. So I wouldn't put down the Vortech kit vs. the Cosworth kit. Both are excellent products. I would simply prefer the Cosworth kit because of it's heritage and experience in world class motorsport and engine building, including tweaking the engine in my RS6 to produce 450hp from the factory

Yeah, that is pretty disappointing as it appears the problem was with the original software tuning; the actually hardware is praised everywhere I looked. Looks like it was designed by Magnussen and not tuned by Cosworth. I'm guessing they learned their lesson for the FT86 and, hopefully, did a better job of working with the suppliers and the tuning... We will see.
