Unfortunately this can happen anywhere.
I trained for this exact scenario with the Army when posted to Ottawa back in the 70s. Mind you at that time the expected "terrorists" were from Quebec! (Not a joke!)

What would they do, run into parliament and wave a white flag? Damn cheese-eating surrender monkeys...

edit: Unfortunately the danger exists everywhere. If you have the will to see it through, you can acquire a gun from anywhere in the world whether they're illegal or not. And extremists of all flavors don't only come from other countries, they come from within your own country as well. Since you can't make the problem go away, you have to make sure you can respond correctly if it happens.

These are not your France, French they were Canadian French.
Sorry Gram no joking around this time!
If you know Canadian history you would know different.
It did work out ok but there were some very tense times through the 60s and 70s.

Still French...

Actually, if you look at France's military history, aside from WW2 they've always been very successful at what they did. Plus they helped us win our Revolutionary War. All the France=surrender jokes come from WW2.

Yes exactly!
Even with the WW2 thing they get a bad rap, as they didn't stand much of a chance right from the start and did put up a pretty good fight at first.
My Dad came from Quebec.

Probably not directly, but I would not want to be a terrorist on the receiving end of the CAF anytime in the near future!

To be fair, the FLQ is kind of a joke too.

Sad day today, nonetheless. I was in Ottawa today and let me tell you that it was tense.

Yes they are now but in the late 60s there were murders, bombings, kidnappings and enough threat that the army was mobilized in Montreal for a bit in 70. Even as late as 76 when I was posted to Ottawa we were still trained to deal with their threat even though they were pretty much done by then.

I can't believe that military personnel are being told not to wear their uniforms in public. We should ALL wear uniforms instead.
