Down hill breaking... ABS?

I've noticed this twice now and both times it left me with a WTF is going on feeling.

While coasting down a hill in neutral... foot on the brake to control decent (small but long hill) it's feels almost like ABS engages. I hear and mainly feel it in the brake pedal at around 20-25 mph. To be clear I'm not stopping... just coasting down a hill when it feels like ABS is engaging... If not ABS I have no idea what else it could be.

The pedal doesn't stiffen or loosen... braking doesn't appear to be effected; but I do feel a clunky like feeling on the pedal.

Is this normal or should I take the car in?

100% normal.
It's EBD working. Too little weight over the rear axle, so the EBD system adjusted front/rear fluid pressure. It does it with regular ABS pumps, so it would feel exactly like you described.

Braking*

Are you feeling it in the steering as well? Or just pedals?

It's in a neighborhood with children around; not a large hill by any means. If I were on a larger hill or on a highway I'd just use the transmission.

What does children being around have to do with engine braking?

Keep it in gear for downhills... Trust me.

You can thank me later.

The instruction manual also says to keep it in gear rather than coast.

I think you're supposed to leave it in gear for safety purposes, nothing to do with the transmission or engine right?

Safety reasons aside, there should be no mechanical reason that you can't coast down hill and use the brake to decelerate as needed.

What is EBD?
