Also, my wife and kids. She almost died from flu that turned into pneumonia, so she takes no chances on it happening again. They get the needle though.

Thats the military, I did my time too. I know all too well. But you are government property, and if the government wants you to have the flu shot. You're gonna get it, or you can sign some paperwork and not be government property anymore.

the flu shot only protects from certain strains of flu's. There isn't only 1 flu.

Answer: it is NOT hard to catch, the govt. is just telling you that to keep people from panicing.
I'm 50. I think they vaccinated us in the Navy. Other than that, I've never had a flu shot - never had the flu.

Nor is the vaccination 100% effective. It's a numbers game and the CDC has to take a stab at what strain will be the most likely one to spread each year. They don't always nail it.

Someone who is 50 and never had the flu? Is that even possible?

The flu isn't that common, and a lot of people who say they have "the flu" actually tend to mean the common cold (or some other flu-like but less severe illness) instead. The flu tends to cause fairly serious and long lasting symptoms by comparison, and it isn't nearly as common.

I'm 50 too BTW. A few weeks ago I was bedridden with fever and severe muscle aches/spasms in the back/legs. After almost 5 days the fever broke and then returned a few hours later. At that point my back wasn't as bad so I went to a clinic and an xray revealed pneumonia in the right upper lobe.

I think that was most likely flu that led to pneumonia. Otherwise, the muscle pain wouldn't have been present.

I think I might have had flu many times in my life. This year my family will go for flu shots.

YA that couldn't have been more fucked up if they set out to do it on purpose!

I am very curious as a pile of people keep referring to the military (ex and current) about just how many of us there are on here!
Think I will do a poll up as I can't find any old ones to breath life into!

What gets me is the military has emergency management career fields and HAZMAT response teams that are very very well trained in this kind of thing. Part of their training is with live nerve agents and biological weapons. So why is the CDC scratching their heads about how to proceed? It should go up to the department of health, they should reach out to the department of defense, and we provide training, equipment, and support. Why are they acting like it's rocket surgery?

@stugray would say: Its because the government wants to take our civil liberties (they definitely act like it), take our ammo, and rape our daughters!
