question on putting my tires in the storage
I have a set of wheels and tires I like to put away for storage, is it better to put them in storage with the tires still on the wheels or should I uninstall them before storage?

Unmounting them won't get you any benefits, except a lighter wallet.
Depending on the tire, you should really store them in a warm area though. Good summer tires don't like being stored in cold temps.

Some higher performance summer tires will have the compound change when stored in freezing temperatures for a long period of time. The result is that when they defrost they could become less grippier or performance can be a compromised. Not like the tire would be unusable, but I've heard people noticing quite a difference under harder performance.

The car was stored in an unheated garage while the tires were still good, but in the following spring and summer I noticed the performance dropped (not commensurate with the wear on them). ![]() CEREBRUS Last edited by RFB; 10-16-2014 at 10:56 AM. |
