Rocket Bunny Kits

OK, I realise this is going to cause some issues and people shouting at me, but feel free, you have every right to shout at me if you are passionate about the genuine Greddy RB kit.

I have a predicament... I am looking on Ebay at all the "RB v1" kits available. Theres what appears to be the genuine item for $5000, or theres another kit, claiming to be ABS and carbon Fibre for $3000. Then we have the Chinese kits for around $1500.

Here's my problem.. I live in the UK, so have never even seen a GT86 RB v1!!

I want to buy one of the kits, but am unsure what to buy. I know the purists will say go genuine Greddy, but are the other kits really that bad? I am more than capable of taking moulds off what ever kit I buy and replicating the panels ready for when I need to replace them, so actual moulding quality is not an issue for me.

I will be very interested to hear peoples views and experiences with the cheaper kits...

You should purchase a genuine kit if you're going rocket bunny greddy put their time and money to design this kit and now some Chinese company is trying to replicate and make a profit. You're better off buying the real kit. On a different note do you know how to mold with carbon fiber?

I know exactly what you're saying Kyle, and fully agree. But, when you consider another $700 to $1200 shipping, then import duty and VAT, the kit is gonna cost me like $7000!!! That's fine, but when you consider that is going to cost me in the region of $5000 more than the copy.. it starts to look a little different!!

I would love to be able to work with carbon Fiber, Unfortunately I don't have a vacuum oven...

i'm not sure if you're pricing it out correctly. the replica kits to my knowledge aren't including the gt wing? or at least the chinese one in the other thread, you can get a genuine rb v1 kit for 2500 without wing before shipping / tax.

Can you do me a favour please Kyle.. Steer me towards a genuine kit supplier with the best prices. It sounds like you're intimating that the kit I found on Ebay is expensive?

I will happily buy a genuine kit, and in fact would rather have the real deal, but right here, right now, I cant justify the cost..

Your best bet is to find a used one or just save up some more, I had to pay around the same amount for shipping not to mention custom charges over the $4995 they already charged for this kit, as for the replica kits, there's another thread discussing that, if you wanna go for replica then go for it, at the end of the day it's your car and your decision, it does not matter what people say, I've seen replica RB's and they look identical, does that make me whine about me paying a lot for the kit? nope.

Question is how much extra fabrication and messing around do you have to do to get the rep to fit like the real deal? Factor the labour cost of that into the rep kits

If you don't have the money now, then save up. I've seen what happens to customers when they get 'replica' body work pieces, it can end up costing you MORE than it would if you bought the authentic kit in purely in labor cost, I've seen it before. Of course the cost variation between $1500 and the cost of the real kit is relatively big, but after modifying cars for 10 years and having my fair share of bumpers and widebody kits, I can tell you that you're going to want to save up for the real deal.

So, offer me a deal on a genuine kit, shipped to the UK and I'll buy it. As I said, I can afford the real deal, I want the real deal, but it's just convincing myself to spend all that cash.. Go on... quote me happy!!
