The auto-update from last night is what I'm describing in this thread. As mentioned in my first post, it requires a template update in order for it to work. The template file is the file that provides all the new language file and button icons that the new software needs. Usually running new software with old Template files is no big deal as you will only be missing a few text items or icons. But in this case, it was absolutely required for data display functionality because of the significant changes we made to the formate of the display screens.

In the future, if you do not want updates all you need to do is disable WIFI when launching the OF Manager. With the next version of OF Manager, you will be given the option to enable/disable auto updates. I will look into the feasibility of creating a message when a new Template is required. It's not very often. In this case, it was only required for realtime data displays. Core functionality (ECU read/writing) should not have been effected so there is no chance of a customer being stranded in any way.

Going forward, I will post update threads like this the day before the update is released to the public so that those overeas (several hours ahead of us) won't get the auto update before we have a chance to post info about the update. I understand the frustration of not knowing what is going on for several hours and then only reading about it on the forum later that evening (our morning).

Regards,
Shiv

I found out about the template when I installed it, yet I was told that it was only for the US, what the hell my unit was broken so I did the template update and all worked ok.
My point is that your website is the first port of call when one has a problem.
There the information should be found and not on some forum.

I am looking for OpenFlash Manager v1.11.1 I cant find it, this as an example, so I assume its downloaded as an upgrade, yet my tablet that is now working 100% with OFM 1.11

I am confused and frustrated...
But all is good as the ability to switch off WiFi upgrades is a good thing
and my tablet is once more working ok.

So thank you..

Nah... I forgot to close OFManager when I was installing 1.11.1. I don't have any anti virus installed on my old laptop. I use this laptop as OBD scanner and to tune with romraider and stuff related to tuning with the OFT only.

Also I had the same problem as all these other guys when 1.11.0 auto updated with the screen staying on "Communicating with ECU, please wait...". Problem cleared up once I updated the OFT with OFM 1.11.1 and installed the new template.

So I see its a communication problem and that even your people had no idea as to what is going on.
It was an online upgrade that caused the issue, yet now I see that we have to load the template by hand.
It was my experience in programming and computers that helped me to solve this.

Maybe a warning popup on OFM instructing when such an issue comes up.

And Shiv if it was not for Steve and Wayne us new comers would be up shit creek without a paddle.

I sent you a message about second 02 sensor code that I understood to be turned off you still have not responded.

I must say I am regretting choosing this platform for tuning.
Mate think your being a bit harsh

The Template files issue is mentioned twice in the OFT TIPS thread

and its also noted on OFT Downloads site.

These OFT's are pretty rock solid easy to use and safe.

Their was no issue with the ROM flash car ran fine , it was just a monitoring issue as the template file was not installed.

Consider your other option would be a tuner in Oz who will charge you about $1000 for a tune and all you leave with is generally a LOCKED ECU with a tune installed, no means of re flashing or changing anything yourself and no ability to log realtime or to files or download ect or check your tune. If you wanted E85 tune or tune mods for headers pay again.

From OFT downloads site page

---------------------------------------

FRS/BRZ/GT86 Template file for Firmware 1.29 and up
This file updates the text and graphics on your OFT. If you are missing text for any reason, it's pobably because there was a firmware udpate and new text has been added to the OFT interface. To update, simply connect your OFT to your laptop and run the latest version of OpenFlash Manager. Go tot "Upgrade" section and selcect this file (you will have to download it first). Once you press "start" the process will take approximately 30 seconds. Simple as that!

Steve

As you wish to inflame me... I will go along and say that as a new person I am not familiar with all the threads nor do I have the time to go searching when I really don't know what I am looking for.

So no I am not been harsh, the information seems to flow in forums and not on the website, add to that the fact one is told that US is different to Australia one wonders what information is for what country.
The website should be the port of call, go and have a look at what version template and what version OFM is showing on that page.
Its ok with you blokes that have your little click group but for an outsider like me is different.
Its ok for you to say my tune was safe, you have no idea as to what I had at the time when I could not talk to the car ECU, now you can say in hindsight that I was safe, yet at the time I had a panic attack.
As a customer that has paid a lot of money for this device, the point you make about having to pay a tuner is really not relevant, I was sold a device with lifetime tunes, that is what I paid for, not really relevant to the problem is it?
Now you have been very helpful to me, but it was not you or Wayne or Shiv's people that said to me to load the new template, nor was Wayne aware of a new template last night, also I was told not to load templates but to let the update do this, now we find this not to be the case. I loaded the template on my own volition and all worked.

Now I am pissed off again when you of all people make the comment that I am a bit harsh, I think I have been patient enough with all the misinformation I was fed.

The OFT is one of the cheapest devices on the market ,considering it comes with tunes. They keep the cost down by using opensource tools such as Romraider and their definitions which are provided for free by the Romraider community. They choose to provide much of the information via and youtube and the forums as its probably cheaper than producing reams of documentation that few would probably read anyway and documentation is very time consuming hence expensive to produce to produce and update.

I have never excluded anyone and make an attempt to help all, you included

Now I am pissed off again when you of all people make the comment that I am a bit harsh, I think I have been patient enough with all the misinformation I was fed.

Did I mis-inform you ? no

The first post in this thread (by Shiv) says you are required to load the template as part of the update.

The OFT Downloads page says load the template if you have logging issues

The thread I wrote on OFT TIPS says load the template

The website should be the port of call, go and have a look at what version template and what version OFM is showing on that page.

That is where I downloaded template and OFM this morning and all worked fine V1.11.1 and template 1.29 unless it was changed overnight it all seems ok.

Yes when I first got my OFT it was a new device and I ran into a few issues and problems but you work through the process ask questions and learn from others, read and learn and come out with more knowledge.

Same with basic tuning, same when I got Tactrix/Ecuflash same when I get any new piece of gear or software or car or a new sport or start something new. Its a learning experience and the process can sometimes be frustrating but the aim is to learn and understand.

Blaming and flaming others rarely solves problems.

Now back to the Formula1

Actually, they don't have do not cache set on their pages/menus so it's possible to never see that download page because they keep changing the URL and the menu sends you to the previous page which they don't remove from the server.

I don't think he's being harsh. 6 hours trying to diagnose isn't exaggerated, not to mention other people trying to help. All because the updates are applied automatically and unless you live on the forums you'd have no idea. In fact I DO live on these forums and still had no idea. Shouldn't be our responsibility to figure out why product no longer works after no action on our part has been taken

Yes sensible response @Wayno, not run into cache problem as i set clear browser exit. however that can be a drama.

My suggestion would be a pop up widow or similar after each update that says "Please Check OFT Downloads Site for New Template file"

Now were getting constructive

Only just got onto thread after panicking the same that I had bricked my tablet but a quick read to see what I had missed on Shivs post had me fixed but I did waste about an hour but small price for what you get and the support provided, think we need to put into context.

Well Steve since its pick on me day, I again will play the game with you and say yes you are right, my fault for not reading all the crap that is out there about this device.

Having tunes that don't suit our fuels and have to rely on the charity of people like you to get things to work,

Having tunes where fault codes are supposed to be turned off and yet are not for us dumb Aussies

Been told that Auto cant have soft rev limiter when it can be done

My bad Steve its all my fault for expecting professional service for a product that is expensive.

Let me ask this, are you working for Shiv? I am sure he can defend himself.

But you seem to have an agenda to inflame me about all of this.

I was the one that spent many ours and fixed this, with no help from you, you had read the issue we where having and only after we solve it you come on here making comments.

I don't think its a lot to ask to have information that can be easily accessed and not having to read your immense pages of info that in many cases don't relate to our tunes.

BTW I am still waiting for a response from Shiv about the exhaust code that our ROM should have, remember that it was you that told me to message him, stupid me in thinking that I would get a response, again my fault.

Note that I was not aware of this thread until some 24 hours after the problem started.

So best you keep watching you F1 and get off my back.
