There was a Toyota internal bulletin that someone posted about bearing failure. It is a know thing with several instances occurring. You should try and find it on here and show your dealer. The bulletin reported that due to all the occurrences the manufacturer has changed the requirement for building the motor - some of the journals on the crank (I think) had shit in them that can get dislodged and scrape up the crank end of the rod bearing.

I fuc!ing hate it when a dealer says 'it looks like it has been raced'. When the 08 STI motors kept popping the dealers were saying that people 'spent too much time near redline'. I took a picture of a giant poster in my dealership with an STI sliding sideways and the phrase 'Thou shalt always seek the redline'. WTF. Advertise a car as a real performance vehicle, but use it that way and it is abuse. I hate Subaru. They just keep making these damn cars that I love and I have no choice but to buy them...

The over rev could easily be the culprit. How bad was it? I've seen motors let go 10k miles after a money shift.
I accidentally downshifted into second gear for a couple seconds going about 75-80. The tech told me that if he would have seen my full exhaust and crank pulley he would have pushed for a denial. It's a good thing he didn't notice the tune. He did comment on how strong it ran on the test drive though.😁

That sounds similar to what happened with my brothers SR20. Down shift from the top of third gear into second. Spun the motor to about 11,000 RPM. Quite a while later it threw a rod while he was just commuting to work.

I spoke with an engine builder who explained two different failure modes for this kind of over-rev. He said that one way they fail is for the bearing caps or bolts to stretch or deform. This would allow the bolts to back out and the engine would throw a rod. His is obviously the more extreme and rare scenario. It can also pound down the bearing, similar to what happens under extreme detonation, in which case you get a spun bearing. This is more common.

Back onto the LS swap. What are people doing with the rear ends? Keeping them stock?

If youve got any kind of DD'ing in the car better to be safe than sorry, id upgrade to the ford 8.8 rear end from FBM

Thats exactly what i was thinking. It will be able to handle some good power to if the owner decides to upgrade. Anyone know of any v8 build threads or pictures other then the weapons grade picture? I have searched but no luck as of yet. I really need to do some research on the swap.

Mine is still making progress slowly but surely. Almost everything is here including a set of headers I am testing. Finish date is still expected to be in December but with the AZ86Bash 2 coming up I might push it for sooner. The AC might not be done by then and I may even have to trailer it up there but I think it's going to make an appearance.

Still trying to sell all the turbo stuff.

Update on mine. They just got the harness in so they are putting everything in and getting the custom exhaust made. Should be done in about 2 weeks. They really go through the motor and make sure everything is good. Name: uploadfromtaptalk1412694368904.jpg

I just finished snagging a Tick Stage 2 T56 for my build and I am waiting for WGP to get my harness back to me. I have an idea for headers but we are still working on it, we shall see.
@C130NAV, I thought you were going LS3, that's not an LS3.
