I have a Nokia Lumia 800, fits well in that little center area under the audio screen. I even have a gum pack there and phone fits nicely on top

Just bought one of those Neo Grab holders for $19.99 free shipping on eBay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/390627385121 Looks great for our cars in multiple locations and the mounting piece sticks to damn near anything it looks like, AND it's not permanent. I'll be using this for Torque, nav, and video recording mountain runs and track days. This is what I do as well. Slide the cup holders as far forward as possible leaves a nice slot for the phone to sit in. Fits my iPhone 5 just fine.

I have an HTC ONE (had the GSIII before) and it fits perfectly in the little cubby under the HVAC controls.

I forgot one place... When I'm using my phone as a GPS I sometimes lay it between "the humps" on the dash. It has a rubberized otter case on it, and it sits there perfectly unless I am driving aggressively.

Somehow I've missed that footage - I've never seen the crash from beneath like that. Wild stuff.
